Well I haven't started a thread in a really - really long time so figured that I should.

Anyone have experience with the Canon GL1 camcorder?
Do you have a favorite camera that you would like to talk about? Tips on anything?

Discuss them here.

I just got my GL1 yesterday and am totally amazed at all the features and the quality of picture.

since this is a camera thread, maybe i should take advantage of it...

See i have been shoping for a digital camera thats good, but not too expensive. Anyone have ideas?

Hope pako doesn't mind me asking a question in his thread... :nervous:

Digital Video sounds great, just bought a digital camera, and now I'm ready for the next step. If that gets the Pako stamp of approval after a few months of use, I just might have to start looking into one...:)

My newbie experience with the GL1 is awesome.

There is enough automation that a newbie like me can take it straight out of the box and start taking Pro Like Pictures. I can also make manual adjustment for Shutter speed, apature, and exposure +12db gain. I took some shots at the park yesterday with a UV Filter and a Polaroid Filter. The clearity of the shots were stunning. Truly broadcast quality.

This weekend I will put it to a lowlight test recording Blue Onion in a dark bar. I won't be recording as that would be too hard to play bass, run sound, run light, and the GL1 so my brother and wife have agreed to the task.

I am noticing that my computer SUCKS for video editing. A PIII 600mHz at 384mb of ram, I made a little 2 1/2 minute at 640x480 resolution QuickTime movie that took about an hour a minute to encode. So lets see, to encode a 1-hour movie, it would take Oh, only two and a half days to encode. A new processor is definately in the budget.

I will update my observations on the GL1 as I get them.

Encoded into What, if I may ask.

QuickTime using Cenipack compression at 16-bit stereo sound.

2'25 minute movie came to about . . . . . . .331 mb. The quality wasn't even that great. Gonna have to do some experimenting on the different codec's.

I depends on a couple of things....

While editing the different clips, you can actually be accessing the clips directly from the camera without "capturing" the video. This is handy because it doesn't tax the system until rendering the video. You can "capture" the video in numerous formats using numerous codec's for both NTSC as well as PAL formats.

It's all pretty mind blowing right, but it will all come together.

Sorry, misinturprited your question. If I read it right, what format is the video on the tape that's in the camcorder? To the best of my knowlege......DV at 48khz with 16bit 2 channel audio or 12bit 4 channel audio.

How many FPS is that?
DVD is only around 30 or so I believe (depends on what kind)
(Making you work today)

29.97 FPS at 520 lines of resolution. Waoh, that's DVD resolution isn't it? :D

At 30 FPS the audio become out of sink with the video. It will capture, in frame mode, 30 still high res photos per sec. This gives you a Motion Picture quality. Most camcorder will interlace each frame. Blending one frame to the next.

I prefer the Frame mode over the Normal mode when using this camera.
