Welcome to Minicooper's "short report!"
Every once in a while I will do a short report on a race I did in Gran Turismo 4. It will not always be in GT mode either, sometimes it will be in Arcade Mode too.

Today I pushed a Nissan 240ZG to the limit in an attempt to beat it's newer, more advanced counterparts. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing and driving it!

THE LINEUP:
1: Nissan 300ZX 2seater (Z32) '98
2: Nissan Fairlady Z 280Z-L 2seater '78
3: Nissan Fairlady Z Version ST (Z33) '02
4: Nissan Fairlady 2000 (SR311) '68
5: Nissan 350Z (Z33) '03
(me) 6: Nissan 240ZG (HS30) '71

THE RACE:
This was an incredible race, for 123 A-spec points. I knew some cars would be easy to beat - after all, they were old and slow - but I knew that the newer cars, especially the 350Zs, would be a real challenge. The location: Grand Valley Speedway Reverse. This track seems simple enough, but the strait is where my opponents have a large advantage. So, let's get this show on the road, shall we?

Within the first 10 seconds I have the lead over the first two cars, a red '78 and a White '68. I top out at 104 mph before I need to use the brakes. As I start accelerating again, I notice gold and purple up ahead. As I get closer I see that they are braking very early. I know that I can late brake in this car, but I must be careful. Many times through this left-hander I have upset the balance of the car and spun.

Luckily this doesn't happen and I take the outside line to pass the gold Z, and this puts me to the inside line through the next corner. I inch past the purple 300ZX and we swap a little paint.

Up ahead is a nice blue Z - the last car I have to pass - and fortunately it isn't too far in front. As I take the sweeper cautiously, I start to get a bit faster. Not falling below 70, I keep a steady grip on the wheel, and try to avoid all signs of understeer. Over the bridge and he's very close, less than a second, but more than half.

I keep my hopes up as I go a bit wide through the tunnel corner. The Blue Z outpaces me through the next section, but I have a plan...

With late braking through the next right I almost hit the wall, but that Z isn't getting much farther away. With still more late braking I come close to making contact. As I go wide again I know I can pass him. Closer CLOSER CLOSER.

Our bumpers do their jobs through the next to connected lefts. I get the better exit and start to think about the upcoming hairpin. After the right, he's .463 seconds ahead. I'm getting closer ever so slowly, but now I can put my plan into action.

Late braking for the hairpin gives me a great exit, but the Z is still ahead. I keep in his slipstream to, at the very least, not fall that far behind. 105...106...107... I notice he taps the brakes, but I keep my foot down. As I start inching ahead of him, the left-hander hairpin is coming up...

You guessed it... Late braking once again! Just at the apex I floor the gas, and almost go in the grass; but I hold my ground, and begin to even go slightly faster than the car behind. I see less and less blue in my mirror, but I know from experience he is faster here. I'm going to need to hang on to my lead to win, and this is going to be a close race.

It's still lap one, until I cross the line .091 seconds ahead. A gentle nudge gives my rear bumper a chance to be useful too. As we get closer and closer to our braking points, the Z takes the lead away once again, but I can make it still...

A quick tap on the brakes and I pass him again, but it won't last very long. Pedal to the metal, I try to block, but I get another nudge at 100 mph and almost lose my concentration. As I powerslide through the next two corners, I look an my rear view mirror and notice something suprising - The gold and purple Zs are not falling behind much. In fact, they are closer to the blue one than the blue one is to me. I gotta hold my lead against them all.

I take the next to sweepers cautiously, because I have trouble seeing in the tunnels. By the next sector I am .637 seconds ahead. About as far ahead as my rival was on the lap before.

Although I am still ahead, if I want to have a chance, I need to stretch my lead further still. I am slow on the strait, and from this point I am sure this will be close - so long as I don't mess up...

through the next fer corners, all I can think is that he's gaining on me. I have no time to check, I have to concentrate. I cut across the concrete and brake for the next right. The hairpin's coming up, and he's still right behind me. I never had a chance to get any farther ahead, but neither did he. The distance between us barely changed for half a lap; let's hope it stays that way.

By the time I reach the sweepers I can see three different colors behind me. "You aint gonna catch me, no way. Stay behind me. Stay behind me. Please, stay behind me! Before I knew it I was at the last turn of the race. I was too busy thinking to calculate where to brake... so I braked late.

Very late.

"AhhhHHHHhhhhhh!!! Woah!!!" This was scary, I went so wide I couldn't even believe I was still alive, let alone on the track. Yet, my position stood. A very bad exit, yes, but I was still ahead...for now.

The Z behind me was faster, and I knew it. He knew it too, and if he win's he's going to rub it in my face. Heck, he'll be rubbing it in my face just by winning. But if I win... well, just think, he's faster yet I beat him. Wouldn't that be great.

Ruh Roh. He's closer than he was a second ago. He's getting closer still. My bumper will fall off if he hits me again. I have to ride it out, hope for the best. By now I can't see him in my mirror again. He's right next to me, I can feel it. He's ahead, right? He should be by now. Why can't I see him yet? Maybe he's not as fast as I thought. Maybe he's taunting me. Well, I'm not gonna let that happen... No way, there's just no way at all for him to...

Buh-da da, buh da da da, buh-daaaaa...

RESULTS:
(me) 1: Nissan 240ZG (HS30) '71
2: Nissan Fairlady Z Version ST (Z33) '02
3: Nissan 300ZX 2seater (Z32) '98
4: Nissan 350Z (Z33) '03
5: Nissan Fairlady 2000 (SR311) '68
6: Nissan Fairlady Z 280Z-L 2seater '78

Well, I think the results speak for themselves...

What I found interesting about this race is that everyone had a battle going on between one other car. When I talked to the driver of the '68 Fairlady for example, he told me that he was just trying to beat the '78 Z. When I talked to Famine, driving the Indigo 300ZX, he mentioned that he was expecting the gold Z to win. He also mentioned that he never knew how much of a great driver I was, and wanted to challenge me, but that's another report...

Anyway, that's another short report, but I think I might need to change the title to "long report" instead...

Pics will be coming, as well as a setup, so that's something to look forward to. :)

If you enjoyed this report, please comment. Also, if you have any requests or ideas about what cars, tracks, or races I should do next, feel free to mention it.

Edit: What should I post first, the setup, or the pics?

Nice report again.

Sounded like a very intense battle. I like how you kept it like you were really driving an old 240, and whole bit at the end about you talking to the other driver's, and Famine and his Indigo Z32 was absolutely great. I definetly want to see the report of you and Famine.

I'd also like to see you do a report where you a put Chevy up against a Ford, something like Camaro Vs. Mustang, or some other rivalry like that.

Post pics ASAP.

Heh, well, Famine and I never really raced, but I could make it up and then tell him to see it. ;)
I'll try to get pics up as soon as I can. In fact, I think when my mom stops watching football I'll start. :)
