Missing Threads?

Hey,

I’m currently working on a little project of mine, which is to archive the Photography Competitions in the ‘Photography & Image Editing’ section. I just finished doing the Model Competition and have began work on finding all the images/themes and winners for the Automotive Competition. However, I’m having some relatively large issues with the Automotive Competition. Lots of threads are missing, or can’t be located.

I’ve tried everything. To begin with I searched ‘Automotive Competition’ in the Photo section which most of the competitions then appeared, however Week 37-46 have completely disappeared. Not to mention Week 24, 29, 32, and 34. As well as searching just ‘Automotive Competition’ I also tried ‘Automotive Competition *then the specific number*’ of course threads did appear but they weren’t the ones I wanted to find. I also tried going onto the owner of the competitions page and looking under the threads they have created, in this particular case LongbowX is the owner. And again, every other thread was there, apart from these 15 odd threads that have eluded me so far.

So my question is, where are they? As the purpose of a archive is to show everything that has happened it’s a bit hard to do when massive periods of time are missing. Has the forum software deleted them? Am I using the search feature incorrectly? Or is this just a general flaw?

Currently I haven’t gone any further than week 46, as it’s a bit pointless until I find these threads, so there may be even more that are missing.

I found the missing ones by using the search bar at the top right of the forum homepage

I found them by searching "Automotive Competition" with "Search Titles Only" set, and also by setting the "Find Posts From" date to "6 months ago" (and Older)...
 
Hm, I still can't I searched 'Automotive Competition 34' and I just got the Model Automotive Competition Week 34.

EDIT: I'll try that Touring Mars.

EDIT 2: I can find a couple of the threads, but there are still some which aren't appearing. Only a few now though.

The main problem seems to be that all search results are limited to 100 threads, so you may need to vary your search parameters to find them all.

It appears that some older threads were made by GBWH1991, too. There may also be some threads made by others. You will also need to set the date to "A Year Ago" to see the older threads.

Yeah, luckily I managed to get most of the GBWH1991 ones that he ran, it was mainly when the competition was a transitional peroid between GBWH stopping running it and Longbow beginning to run it. It seems a bit weird if you ask me how the search isn't that reliable, surely is should be if I type 'Automotive Competition' it should come up with every thread which contains those words?

It does, but search results are limited to 100 threads, so you need to be more specific in order to limit the number of results and to find the threads you are looking for. A simple search like the one you suggest would find not only 'Automotive Photography Competition' threads, but 'Automotive Photography Competition' poll threads and 'Model Automotive Competition' threads too, all of which are in the same subforum. A search for "Automotive Photography Competition Poll" generates the best result... (Note also that you can add "NOT" to a search to eliminate specific words, like "automotive photography NOT poll", which will filter out the poll threads from your results)
