Man, what a great car for that price tag! I would (and will) very seriously consider buying one of these next year...

So we will have a new Z, supposedly under $30k, and the Lancer in a similar prrice range. If the RX-8 stays in the low $30k's, we should have a real Japanese sports car rennaisance. So what the hell is Toyota planning?

Gee - the WRX and now the Evo VII. You guys are going through a real WRC car renaissance over there!

Interesting stat - nearly 50% of WRX's in Australia (we've had them here for years) are involved in some sort of panel bending accident in their first year of ownership.

Hope you don't go through the theft thing we did here.

We're already big in theft. Accords are at the top of the hit list. Mazdas are low on the list I think......and hope ;) .

BTW, the new RX-8 and Mazda 6 were unvailed at the Detroit Auto show today, and to see the vid of it, go to MazdaUSA.com and go to Detroit Auto show. Too bad my connection only runs at 28.8K.

I was actually referring to theft specific to WRX and Evo VII - we've just had a limited run on the Evo VI (Mitsubishi will probably launch the Evo VII later in the year), and they are a VERY popular target for theives - specifically because they can out-run the police, and as such are popular ram-raiders.

Insurance for a WRX in inner Sydney for a couple both over 30 with clean driving records and maximum no claim bonus was over $2500 (on a $40k car), compared to around $1000 for a Liberty/Legacy RX (about a $37k car).

They're driven by a lot of young guys, they get in a lot of accidents, and they get stolen a lot. Mmmm, it's a wonder you can get insurance at all!

U forgot SUBARU STi $27-28K

the WRX has spurred imports right along.. wonder if we're actually gonna get the new 240 and/or skyline.. I personally am not that impressed with the new Z's looks. I am a diehard 69 240 fan tho. it had some british styling but without the electrical problems :p I would love to have one as a project car :)

Yeah, now if Peugeot and Citroen would just start selling cars here again, we'd really have it :D

No joke... talks are to re-release the Supra. They are liking the market, and are following the lead of all the other Japanese auto makers. They are going to have to keep it under 30,000 to stay competive though... The last Supra was selling for 50,000 before it was cancelled. We'll see what happens! Rumor has it, start looking for cocepts in 2003. :)

Actually, when I was at the Auto Show in Detroit (just this past weekend, mind you) the horsepower listed on the Evo VII was 260. Ten higher than you mentioned.

Also, I talked to some Subaru guys there and they said that the STi might come to the U.S., despite the fact that several magazines have all ready claimed it to be certain, it isn't yet. Subaru is still kind of waiting to see how the Evo does over here. I did get a sweet picture of it... which I'll attach. I've got more if anyone is interested.

I also have pics of the WRX, WRC (the rally car), and the Mitsu rally car...

Whoops... forgot to attach the image. Here it is, as promised.

I had to re-size it first anyhow. My camera is 5.2 MP so the pictures come out pretty big...

I had to re-size it twice, actually. So, now it's really small. I should upload it somewhere so I can link to it. And my other pictures. Anyone know some good places?
