Mitsubishi Lancer GTO!?

There were 2 times were I encountered this..

once with a lancer wallpaper, on the license plate of a lancer evo, it "looked" like it said GTO on it..

and

on road and track msg board (it was on a list)

Is there a such thing?
 
I never have heard of it. The only Mitsubishi GTO i have heard of this the 3000GT or GTO depends what country your in, which is a V6 Twin Turbo.
 
US = 3000GT (thx to that old pontiac GTO)

Any other cooler place than the U.S. = GTO

Is it possible you saw "GT-A"? That's the automatic version of the new evo7. Nice, I guess, but sort of defeats the purpose.
 
Many times, when debuting cars to journalists for press functions, companies will have about ten or twenty cars on-hand. Usually, these cars all carry English (or whatever country it is being debuted in) licence plates. Since the cars are all registered at the same time, they all carry the same digits on their licence plate. The "GTO" series is just a chance thing that Mitsubishi happened to get for their press ceremony (though you can pay for special plates, and if it's under six characters and English, they probably did).
