I'm Looking into getting Either a Mitsubishi Mirage Asti either a 1.3 or a 1.5 (Can't insure a Mivec) anybody know what to look out for.on them.

Not too sure if they where sold in the states but they make a nice change from the Auld Civic

Heres what they look like

Yah they were sold in the states, you could probably find one for fairly cheap.

Yeah there cheap enough over here now there isn't too much demand for them when compared to Corollas and Civics (Every man and his dog has a Civic and if its not a Type R It looks like a Type R)

do you know much about them

I had never seen a sedan version of the Colt before, looks fugly.

But there are plenty of them around here, and most people that have them don't sell them after a little while, so I'm guessing they must be decent cars.

Especially because they really weren't very good. Some came with 4G61 engines, but not many; and none of that generation.
Mirages are reliable, but they aren't as good as much of the competition at the time was. They are kind of gutless, and while they are light, so was all of the competition at the time. They are decent little cars, but not so much when compared to the Shadow/Neon/Civic/Integra/Escort. Different standards for different market appeal, you see.

4G61 Which enigne is that not very good with mitsubishi Enigne codes.Drove a 1.3 version of a colt before was nippy but was gutless like I could live with it I'm not really chasing power with it

Hmmm... that generation of Mirage? Gutless engines, steering non-committal... not terrible steering, mind you... it's decently meaty, but... well, it's like a new Mercedes. It's trustworthy, but it won't make you want to go out for a thrape at three in the morning. Same goes for the suspension. Does everything honestly, competently and not very excitingly.

Couple of things can go wrong on this car... MAF sensors are prone to needing cleaning, IACVs, too... not really major... but one big potential headache is if you get an INVECS equipped model... expensive tranny to repair... I'd rather go for a more basic manual-equipped car.

It's a good daily driver, decent car. But I can think of more exciting ways to spend my money in that price and age range.

Not going for a MIVEC? Those are pretty nice... did they sell the 1.8 V6 in your country? Still not an inspiring engine, but it's got good torque and a great engine note.

Best things ive seen done with the Mirage/Colt is an Evo conversion.

Too many to list..,

Edit: Also coupes have been converted.
Best one ive seen used all the Evo IX suspension components, Aluminum widetrack front, and rear multi-link.
It also was converted AWD with the IV trans, V transfer case, VIII RS rear differential, and a custom 2 piece driveshaft.
But well worth it. 4G63 (or almost any Mitsu motor for that matter) are cheap but is probably one of the most reliable from my own observations.

Mirage/Colt is a great dependable car to begin with not concerning the performance aspects. But it can be turned into a dreamcar
with some time, skill, and money. Its not a racecar so therefore it wont feel like one but it could be turned into a rally machine indeed.
