What do you think?

if the body is in excellent cond (ie no rush straight body) and it doesnt blow smoke then its not bad if your after a volkswagon

BTW what dealer said its worth $3100 (im from adelaide too.)

Believe it or not, the MkI is still sold new here in SA. It is supposed to be a "baseline, cheap run-about". Comes with 1.6i engines and the usual bells and whistles.

Laughably, it is one of the cheapest brand new cars on the market - at a whopping US$10200

I'd have it checked out by a mechanic - you dont want to buy someone elses problems.

What!? How about safety-laws and testing? Even Mexico has given up on the old beetle.

sliderulz, go for it. It being worth over 3k $ i doubt, but as mike said, have it checked out. The car is imo a classic, gotta love the euro look on a mkI:

Sorry, but this really doesnt sound that good of a deal to me.

1.6 Litre (1588cc) Carburettor Petrol SOHC 8 Valve Inline Four: I dont know how low the temps get there in Australia, but speaking from experience, a carbureted car can be a pain in the winter.

3 Speed Automatic: Probably not much pickup, then. A manual would have stood up to time better.

150 000+ Kilometres: thats close to 100,000 miles by my computation. You can get newer cars with less miles for your 2k.

Needs Tune (Sitting for 4 months in backyard): I wouldnt buy a car that you cant test drive at highway speeds, unless you are willing accept the possibility of some serious repairs.

Maybe for 1200 USD.
