modchip for ps2

i talked with a friend who told me that any XBOX with a modchip installed cant play online. is this the same for ps2 cuz i eventually want to play online, but i also want to get a modchip so i can play Initial D:Special Stage. if anyone knows can you inform me?

You can play online with the XBOX when it is chipped, just as long as the chip is disabled. As for PS2 i'm not sure, i think you can play online when it is chipped but you should try searching the net for more information.

It all depends what chip you're going to get. Not all of them can be switched off.

o i c. i didnt even know that you could switch off a modchip. so which modchips are good? i dont wanna waste my money.

Don't know which suits you best but I got myself a DMS3 chip. It's the most expensive available and also the only one which can be upgraded.

The reason the Xbox cant play online with a modchip, is becuase microsoft has a checking system to see if your system has been tampered with and if it has your banned from network play, one of my firends modded his and found out the hard way and now cant play with online they take ur serial number and dont let u back on the system, but i dont think ps2 has a checking sytem, and plus microsoft likes to monoplize things, bastards

i've seen them from like $5-50, dpeneds on what kind you get, they have some that you have to install, and others u plug in like a game shark, although i have never had one, i know a lot of ppl who have, they seem very satisified with it
