this has been cycling throw my mind all ****en week. now, are these damn things illegal??? iv seen these thing being talked about everywhere and on sites u would'v never expected. Are they illegal? and what do they do other then play burnt compact disc games?

ANY help would be appreciated

They aren't necessarily illegal. They are in a gray area. Put it this way, you can modify your car, but what does that do? It voids your warranty meaning the car company won't fix your car for free. So, if you chip your PS2, Sony won't fix your PS2 for free. I don't even think they will fix it at all.

i hear ya man.. thanks for the help. what mod chips do u guys recommend compared to its price?? is modchips.com good for shipping? any other places i can get mod chips?

Here's a site i recommend www.modchip.ca The guy that runs this site installed my mod chip, i really regret getting the mod becasue its such a hassle to get the game started, and i dont know how to burn games anyways. But ya check that site out, the guy lives in my city and ships wordwide i believe!

kinda depends how u look at it

the modchip itself may not be illegal, but it leads to the copying of games....and that is an illegal act

Just get a swap disk, that way you don't void your warranty, and they're really easy to use IMO.;)

I said this before but if you get a modchip it will prevent you from playing new legit games since they have anti modchip code.

well no its not illegel but someone said that is illegel to copy games, well from what i know its illegel if you copy and sell them but just copy for yourself is ok i think but im not sure, well i recommand getting a modchip so u can play all games(i did) dont worry ,cops wont break in to your house

lol not worried bout that... its just i hear bad things .. about it messin up ur ps2 and not bein able to play some new games (is this when they are burned or just the copy itself?)

thanks for the help sofar :D

HEY i just quickly thought of something out of my small mind... i have been doin the sawp trick crap with the gameshark for a while and of course i play any games (that are compact disc) i can get a hold of...

my question.. would this work with a dvd?? what programs would i need to use? or would i use the same ones?

thanks

nope, not @ all. You would need to purchase something called SwapMagic and even that has it's limitations

Sony will find out u have a chip only when you go online with a burnt game and your chip is turned on. (see packaged instructions for disabling). Even then, they'll only deny access to log into the server until you get a legit game and disable the chip

and i can't stress this enough for people that say chips prevent new games from running. They only prevent them from going online while the chip is turned on. If it's legit and it detects the chip then disable the chip. Problem solved and it's worry free.

A suggestion...spend more, buy from an AUTHORISED supplier of the chip (authorised by the makers of it). If you don't, you might get a crappy chip that could damage ur console (like many hk knockoffs)

I've asked this question before, but I'll ask it here for good measure...=)

does a gameshark act like a mod chip or a cd swap disc?
I'm also currious. I have a GameShark, and I would love to use it as a swap disc, if that's possible?
Also, has anyone used the Swap disks before? If so what do you think of them, and are they safe to use? ;)

omg! I just came back from a buddy's house playing GT4 prologue....AWESOME

I'm wondering....can an action replay unit be used as a swap disc? because my friend was using an action replay (he just got it, so he has no clue) but I'm not sure if there were anythign else added to the system besides the action replay....

Well im not sure exactly how it works, but fo my modchip to work with PS2 games, i have to also use the gameshark, here are the steps if i remember:
1)insert gameshark
2)choose play game without codes
3)then wait for a certain sound or the black screen right before it starts loading then open and put in burnt game.

With regualy PSX games you dont need the gameshark, but i dont use my mod at all really

well for me.. without a modchip:

1)insert gameshark
2)choose play game without codes
3)then with the cover part of my playstation where u put the games (cd rom) i put like a q-tip or something small and long and i pull this white thing to the left.. put in game .. pull it to the right and they play

only works when i burn compact disc games only..

Q: if i had a dvd burner.. is there programs that i can rip dvd games? and would they work using this method?

thanks in advance ;)

its just the front part of the cd rom that comes out easily.. like in the pic..
