Hello, ive been searching around with no luck so i thought id ask you guys here at GTP. I am looking for a simple modeling program. Ive tried blender and I didn't have much fun with it and ive yet to try 3DSmax but from what i understand both of these are used for more high end models. What i need is something to model <50 polys at the most.

ZModeler is a easy free modeling program. Its mostly used to create game elements (cars, citys, etc.) but you can create anything in it. There is a great tutorial here. The tutorial is for creating cars for Midtown Madness 2, but it will teach you how to use the program as well. You can also import/export models to and from 3DS Max.

Google's free SketchUp is a great, easy-to-use 3D modeler that has some pretty good features.
 
Despite being an old thread, I wish to revive it. I just stumbled across Google SketchUp, and I have to say that it's a walk in the park compared to Gmax. I'd love to see stuff what you people have done with it, I'm still practicing with it. But, since it's easy as breathing ( or so it seems for now), I think I'll get up to speed in no time.
 
I am currently designing my school work on Sketchup to scale. It is my workshop practical being drawn up, it is the front of a biplane designed to be a bookshelf but really it isnt big enough to be a book shelf. I might post it up when its finished.
 
not quite unrelated question, but does anyone have any idea where I could find a free, working plugin that would allow me to export either SketchUp or 3DS Max 9 files in NIF-format?
