Came across this on my Facebook feed.

Basically, if Ford decided to revive the car, do you think it could run with the best of what Europe has to offer. I think a Supercharged 6.5L 4V V8, based on the current Coyote 5.0 would be a cool and massive power plant for it. Even the current Shelby 5.8 or supercharged 6.2 would be awesome. If they could price it similar to the Corvette, we'd have a winner on our hands.

I think its doable, but that concept is UGLY.

Yeah, because when I think of remaking a classic, I think of a Miata.

As long as they keep it on a diet (sub 2,500 lbs.), I'd be very happy. I too, hope the concept changes a bit more to at least include the roll bar.

I think it would be cool, but I highly doubt it would come close to the vette's price. There would be no volume sales to help with the MSRP.

Gives off the same feeling, so why not? Weighs under 2500lbs too.

Thanks to Kit Car companies like Factory Five Racing, we already have "modern" Cobras.

Not to mention what Shelby charges for the CSX series.

True... but not everyone is as adept as you at fixing up a Miata.

I don't know if I'd prefer a reproduction, but these (above) are just continuation models. I'd like to see Ford run new technology through a new model with a contemporary look in mind.

Don't like that design either, though it is just a study. I think if they decide to revive it in modern trim, they should slightly update the original design enough to be current, but keep it true to the original, kinda like this:

Or, they could revive the Daytona Coupe, which I'd love to see and if a track version is made, there is Ford's answer to the Viper and the Vette.

Problem is, a "modern" Cobra is going to feel like a rip-off of the Viper, even when it was meant to be the spiritual successor to said Cobra. Beyond that, for Ford to build a literal Corvette competitor, it'd just feel weird. The Thunderbird never really seemed right, they did a good enough job making the GT500 a reasonable option.

If Ford wants to do a smaller, two-seat roadster, they should go about building a Miata fighter. There's definitely room in the market, and if they can build it to an affordable price, I think they'd stand a good chance with making some strong sales. Offer the 2.5L I4 and standard equipment, make the 1.6T an optional variant, and have the top dog run with the 2.0T from the Focus ST.
