Hi There, just a newbie, but have been looking at this site fro some time now,

just out of curiosity, a lot of you don't seem to upgrade your car to its full potential when racing, is this because :

a) It makes the race closer and therefore more exciting

b) You find that you can acheive better lap times in a less powerful car ?

Having a few troubles here and there, am sure i'll overcome them.
However any tips for the professional Lotus or Echo race would be great :)

Also...how the hell do you guys concentrate for those endurance races ?

Concentrate? Caffeine. Lots of it. But seriously, I usually aim for a time to run them early in the day, when I am awake enough to fully concentrate.

Racing with a car that's on par of slightly better/worse depending on your skill helsp enjoy that game. I've hit 100% twice, and 85% on another time. After a while many people who enjoy the game look for more of a challenge. Less upgrade, usually means a tigher race. Thus more conecntration and the squeak buy for a win much more enjoayble.

The lotus race can be won with a heavily upgrade 190 or a mildly tuned Motor Sport. It just takes practice.

As for the Vitz race, that's a model of simply loading up the car with the best, and knowing how to drive an FF car with that set-up. TO be honest, I think I've run that race about three times in all teh miles I've driven.

Good luck, Welcome to GTP

Yeah those ENDUROS are time consuming anyways when I beat the game I started over and race with stock cars on the races and midly tuned cars for the hard races.

G day Fat Mike,
Nice to see an interesting subject from a new member.
The amount of tuning required to win races is inversally proportional to how experienced the racer is.
Some races still require tuning to win. The Altezza races are impossible in a standard RS200 or IS200. Finding a car or a state of tune which is competitive but at the same time will not blitz the field seems to be the current aim for most experienced racers now.
Running a close race tends to keep the interest up on the indurance races.
The Elise does not like the curbs and only needs small steering inputs for corners. This car likes to be cornered more on the throttle than with the wheel. Once you have turned in with the wheel rely more on throttle control for steering and very little steering input.

I choose b.)

Only problem is that once when i did a test course enduro really late at night i fell asleep at the wheel and slamed into a wall and almost lost.. Thank god for drafting. :)
every other course has enough turns to keep me awake. Its more fun when you feel kinda outclassed Horsepower wise when racing.

Hi Fat Mike!
Another welcome to GT Planet for you.
There's a thread on the first page of the Gran Turismo 3 forums that came round recently called Elise Trophy Help. That'd be a good place to look for your Elise concerns, some good advice from a lot of good racers.

Enjoy :D

o. heres a tip for the motorsport elise/ elise races. Use ur superslicks and dont worry about them being ahead of you, you'll eventually pass them by lap 2 or 3 and win easily. Dont be afraid to drift it either, especially on the apricot hill race.. man that was fun. :) .

I tend to keep in line with the competition for most races, the main exception is the one-make races. Personally I find them about as interesting as watching cement dry, so I tend to just tune the car up to maximum and try and get those races over with.
I'm a big fan of the real race events where the competition is varied and you have to form a strategy around the different strengths and weaknesses of your opponents.

I'm now only racing in an F1 or the best car for the race. Why, you ask? Because my goal right now is 100% as fast as humanly possible, I don't get that goal with challenge mixed in.

The one-makes are among the best IMO, they depend almost completely on driver skill, not superior HP. Just imagine how much more exciting F1 would become again if all the racers had the same car. Maybe somebody would actually win a race instead of Schumi. Then again, maybe not....

As long as they're not all Jaguars.. Then the race would be over after about 10 laps, no one would have any engines or gearboxes left.

I guess it's just what you like, and I know that a lot of people really love the one-makes for that very reason.. But I've always liked a bit of variety. I think deep down I'm more of a tuner than a racer, so I like to mix it up and see what I can come out with.

Why don't we put Schumacher into a Minardi for a test run? Then we can compare his times to Bruni's and bow to the king of Formula One skill. Schumacher is a great driver, but I also see that there are many others with his skill in the sport, but in the end it all comes down to the fact that he and Barrichello are in the two greatest land vehicles on the planet. As interesting as a one-make F1 race would be, only the teams with no or little points would agree to it, see above sentance for why. And for the record I'm 30 seconds out in front in the roadster enduro with the 16,900 Miata, proof that skill is better than power.

Noooooo. So long as they are not Minardi's with the previous McLaren engine. Then you'd definately be screwed.

I only won the Italian Avant Garde thingy. That was hard enough. I hate Zonda's. Except the C12 Race car ofcourse.
