PADDLE SHIFTERS UNDER $5.00
I have the DFGT and DFPro; wanted to add paddle shifters to the DFGT but, decided to test it on the Pro as I thought it was broken (The center after calibration was slightly leaning left) So I mocked up some paddles, went to "Micheals" craft store and went to the model plane section and bought some wood that was 1/4 inch thick... piece cost $2.99. Then got #6 or #8 3/4 inch bolts and screws - 4 needed. $1.00 "Home Depot".
1. Took the steering wheel completely apart (Found out I could adjust the alignment of the wheel center position which was a double bonus)
2. Made a piece of wood that was the exact size of the tabs for the buttons.
3. Made the Shifter size that I wanted. Went with top and bottom paddle at first; but thought that I would never use the bottom so went with just the top paddle.
4. Drilled holes from the inner side of the steering wheel to the left and right of the knob that actually pushes the button. (IMPORTANT: Do not drill too close to the knob on the innerside, or too close to the edge on the outer side. You need to avoid your hole being either too close to the knob or too close to the edge. If you don't you will ruin the application and make the tabs useless.)
5. Marked those holes to the wood that is the size of the tabs, through the holes I just created.
6. Drilled those holes out of the wood. (Make sure you bolts will go through both holes)
7. Position the Paddles on the wood to your desired position. (Make marks thought the wood to the paddles and drill holes there. (Again make sure your bolts will go through all holes.)
8. Insert the bolt through the inner part of the steering wheel an add the nut on the outside of the paddle. (You should have JUST enought room to add the bolt to the end.)
9. Screw in as tight as you feel comfortable without stripping the nut or bult.
10. I painted my paddles and colored the blocks with black permanent marker.
If I had to do again I would buy silver marker and do the same with the paddles... The waiting for the paint to dry was killing me.
If anyone is interested I'll take it apart again and show more detailed pictures... This will work with my DFGT also but I decided to use the DFP for the time being, it's pretty good wheel.
Tested it and it works very easY and activates the shifter when hit at any point on the paddle.
