I'm having a monitor problem after installing a TV card. Sometimes, when I move the TV screen, the monitor will go black, and the light by the power button will change to an orange color (I have a Dell E772C Monitor). Once in a while, it'll happen on it's own. The only way I can restore the monitor's picture is to press the reset button on the computer. Is there a way to reset the monitor without having to turn off the computer?

The monitor is going into sleep mode for some reason. Monitor cables are big, heavy things, so wiggling them might disturb internal connections, making the monitor loose a signal and think the computer is off.

You could see if this is the problem by wiggling the cables by hand and seeing if you can reproduce the problem.

It's not really a "sleep" mode, it's more like a coma, since the only way I can "wake" it up is to reboot the computer. I tried turning the monitor's power off, tried wiggling the cables, still no luck. :grumpy:

Is it an old monitor? Sometimes with the old ones its best to give them a whack. If that doesn't work, whack it harder! ;)👍

The monitor is about 1-2 years old. I got it free along with a computer that refuses to turn on, but that's another topic. Anyway , I didn't have this problem until I started viewing a TV program on the monitor.

To me, the key words in this are

gnomefromnome
after installing a TV card.

I would put money on that being your problem. Is it seated in it's socket properly? Are the drivers installed properly.

The drivers work, the software is fine. I can watch TV programs, it's just that the monitor will go black all of a sudden. :indiff: What I'd like to know if there's a way to restore picture on the monitor without having to reboot the computer.

Is your monitor cable tightly screwed onto the video card. Are both the video card and the tv tuner card tightly resting in the correct spots on the motherboard.
