Keys to Discoveries success:

Deadliest Catch
Dirty Jobs
Mythbusters
Man vs. Wild
Monster Garage (still one of Discovery's highest rated shows)

Now, for the past couple years, Discovery has been trying to find something to replace Monster Garage. ('cause they stupidly canceled the show at the height of it's success and Jesse James got pissed enough to probably not do another season.) So, far, every attempt to replace it has failed miserably. Why? Because the format hasn't been the same and they don't have Jesse James. If I were Discovery, I'd either beg Jesse to come back and bring back Monster Garage, or just not even try to replace it.

Motor City Motors was pretty cool, mostly because it was about 45 minutes from me. Ashame it just stopped one day, didn't get to see my friend's brother on. They were no Jesse James, but the concept of the show was going in the right direction. I guess making cars into crazy contraptions isn't everyones cup of tea.

High rated show...yet they can't even release seasons 4 and 5 onto DVD! (Or for that matter continue to sell the first 3)

I have the first 3 seasons on DVD and it is one of my favorite shows of all time, since it mixes building crazy vehicles with plenty of fabrication and a plenty of humor. I still remember finding the DVD with the first 4 episodes on it at Walmart and instantly getting hooked on it (never got to see the new episodes on cable).

Ultimate Car Build-off seems pretty good, though I'm not sure if it's on Discovery or the Science Channel. I'm guessing Discovery though.

I for one always hated the show. Things usually boiled down to "the people who usually tend to be some variety of engineers who comprise the build team come up with a smart solution to a problem, and build most of it. Then Jessie walks in, calls what they are doing crap, makes them do something else and then blames them when they fail."
