Saw a sneak preview of this one last night, and it was actually a lot more entertaining than the trailers let on. I remember watching a trailer for it just the night before I watched it, and being magnificently underwhelmed. It just didn't look funny. But of course, as many of these trailers do, it was misleading. The movie was excellently animated and a hoot. Just a barrel of fun. I would caution that you might want to think twice about bringing your under 5 year-olds, because there is a lot in here that could be a potentially scary nightmare for young children. That said, I was in the theatre with about four other families (I guess the sneak preview wasn't advertised well), all if which had young children in the 6-12 age group, and none of them were crying or yappy. They seemed to be having a good time.
I also like this movie because of the absence of DIsney. Anyway, I've heard reviews of this movie calling it "The Goonies meets The 'Burbs." While it's not nearly as good as either of thise classics, it nevertheless is a good movie and worth seeing. Theatre or rental, it should entertain you.
