Many fans of the Gran Turismo series often complain that the racer features “robotic” AI. Gran Turismo 5’s creator has revealed that it won’t be the same case with the first full Gran Turismo title on the PS3, saying it’s more “human-like”.

When asked by PlayStation magazine publication PS3M if ‘robotic’ AI from previous installments has been improved on, Kazunori Yamauchi stated:

How close the AI can come to human lap times? That was the focus of development up until GT4. Now that has been successful to some degree, an attempt has been made to express more human-like behaviour in GT5.

Yamauchi previously said that Gran Turismo 5 is 90% complete and will utilize the PlayStation 3’s power as much as it can. But you don’t really care about that do you? You just want the damn release date, right?

Haha this 90% is a funny joke... Wasn´t it at 90% 4 months ago?

Yes, but it's at 90.4% now, it was 90.0% four months ago. :p

 it feels like when you start a game and its on the loading screen for hours and hours

I remember an article released before GT2 where KY said that the AI had been the focus of the game and AI drivers were going to react to situations like they did in real life. I think it was in Game Informer.

I just hope that they don't do the age-old trick of just making the AI too agressive in hope that it would make people think that it's "intelligent".

Yup, its probably going to be the same way with GT5.
You finally hold it in in your hands, put the BD in your Playstation and then: Installing, please wait :banghead:

We had this posted in something like 3 threads before the weekend.

More human, i hope they mean "actually acknowledge your presence".

I can be the first to admit i will turn Damage OFF if the AI is anything like GT4 or 5P where they belligerently adhere to the driving line despite any obstacles (yourself) and ram forth whenever you happen to be "in the way".

A nice touch of defensive and attacking driving would be nice coupled with at least a sense of consideration on their part would make the experience much more pleasant and challenging with the damage aspect.

you got it to a tee
then it will go 1% 5 hours remaining

Based on what has been shown in the new videos, i can say that kazunori is sticking to his word, The new AI is very impressive,

 Knowing my luck there will be a PSN update to download first too.

Usually when games are completed over 90%, the development sky rockets because they have extra help and more testers to finish up the game. I don't get why PD is suck at 90% for the past half a year! Why PD is so secretive about GT5? They talk about many great features, yet they won't show anyting.. It's stupid we have to wait damn YEAR , excse me, 2 years for some exiting E3 press coverage.

@NoxNoctis Umbra:

You will get your answers in next trailer, in stunning 1080p!:lol::lol:

For me the only human AI will be online lol.
Solo game take long time but i m sure stay on this game many years and at 80% of this time before leave deffinitly this game for another one, into online race and Time trial chronos for sure.
So perfect AI of the century or not .... Je m'en moque un peu.

This is actually the most important part. Other than making the A.I. fast without cheating (I'm looking at you, NFS) this is what makes a good A.I. to me.
But I think thats what Kaz meant with "robotic behaviour" and they are working on it.

Actually, it makes me laugh a lot. Let's think about it 2 seconds, they are developing a game and adding lots of contents without really knowing how much they will put and how long will it takes...

In other terms, how can you have done 90% of an endless process ???? :scared:

HAHA never thought about it. But they do have a limit, I think their goal is 1000, cars, all cars have damage, and around 70-80 tracks. I think they do know where to stop.

Because they know what they want to accomplish with the game. When you know the end product you can estimate the progress. Just like when Kaz said that GT5 is something like 15% of his complete vision for the final game.

Fixed

Hehe, i was just kidding...

By the way, Kaz also said that if it was only his decision he will never stop developing the game... So how someone who dont really want to stop developing the game (even more if you want it to be perfect, which is pretty impossible else than go and buy your own cars) can actually tell you that the game is near the release ?

I dont pretend to know this answer, i'm just reflecting facts after what our favorite japanese freak said.
"Game is 90% complete" & "Got something new to add/improve everyday" ...

I thing is sure, unless you hold it in your hands, you dont know anything about the game except that its called GT5 and it's about cars...

Well, if the process is truly endless, thus infinite, then every possible percentage completion exists at the same time! So, it could be 90% or it could be 10%, both are correct. Only when you define an end point does a single percentage become valid. I think!
