Well I finally got to get some more test driving in. I finally got to drive a GTO too. I liked it and I was very ignorant to discount it just because it was a holden badged a GTO. I will admit that was stupid of me.

Unfortunately the GTO I drove was an automatic. The power is still there and it's nice and even with the auto you can light the tires up, but I want to drive a manual before I buy anything. Other then the transmission I like that car. ALOT! It was very comfy and the seats offered good support on the corners. The gauges are nice and clear, and all the controls were very comfortable to reach and get. I would have to say that the one disapointing thing was the sound. The car is quiet for a V8. I found myself wanting to hear that rumble badly but it just wasn't there or atleast in the way I wanted it to be. The first thing I would do if I got that car would be to open up the exhaust so that it sounds proper.

Next on my list was a Mustang GT. Not going to lie I didn't like it. The power decent, but I wanted more and it sounded good too but that's it. I didn't like the steering which felt somewhat disconnected to me and I didn't like how I stepped on the gas and there was a slight hesitation before the power came in. The gearbox was ok at best. I longed for another gear on the highway really because I felt it was a bit of a noisy ride due to engine noise.

So again we come back to the only car I really wanted to drive when I started looking but I still haven't and that's the 350z. No one has one in my area with the options I want and it's frustrating. I talked to a dealer about 2 hours away this morning about one and instead of trying to find what I want they keep trying to move me up into a package I don't want. It seems all the dealers are really trying to push the convertable right now and I just don't want that. So my thinking is that if I can ever find one with options similar to what I want I will go drive it and then maybe order one with exactly what I want. Has anyone ever done something like that before? Do dealers willingly do that or is that going to be struggle like everything else at a car dealership?

Well, with the GTO you are kinda scratching the bottom of the barrel when it comes to options. Now that they are offically discontinued, I think you are going to have to wade through GM's backstock. Chances are, there is a dealer somewhere that has the GTO you are looking for, so you would have to ask your dealer to find it and get it to where you are.

...If I can remember correctly, I want to say there are only two options on the GTO. There is the hood scoop delete, and the option of the T-56. Or is there a StNav? I can't remember...

Don't you mean the GTO is just a Pontiac badged Holden.

How about just testing any 350z coupe, and then you can see how it drives and feels, and if you dont like it you wont have to waste any more time looking for the exact model you would want.

I had a good feeling you would enjoy the GTO, pretty much everyone does who drives them. Just curious why did the fact the GTO is a rebadged Holden make you originally discount it?

@YSSMAN: I am 99% sure there is no sat nav option on Monaro/GTO.

I have thought of that but the thing is some have traction control, LSD, VDC, brembos, or some combination of all those options and I think they may change the way the car handles, accelerates and so on to the point where I may not be getting the correct feel of the car considering the options I want. Basically all the Zs within a reasonable distance from here are loaded up with just about every option. I think I have my heart set on the Enthusiast package which basically just has the options I want and none of the other frills I don't.

Yeah, I watched footage of a best motoring video awhile back and they tested the 'track' (as they are called here) spec 350Z's with the standard version and the main problem was the VDC could not be completely disengaged even though the button was switched off, from memory Keiichi Tsuchiya could not brake oversteer because of it among other things.
