Motherboard is toast?

So, a few days ago I came home from work and to my computer off, with a very strong odor of burnt silicone. Apparently their had been a power outage while I was away. I figured it was the power supply, because it wasn't obviously suppling any power to the PC.

I ordered a new PSU, pretty much the same as my last one (Antec NeoPower 480w) the new one is an Antec Neopower 500 watts. I plugged everything in, it powers up, but the monitor doesn't come on. I check all the connectors, everything is in order...I was thinking the motherboard is toast?

Sorry if I'm being slightly vague...It's 1 in the morning. Ill answer any questions you might need in the morning.

Power supplies tend to take things to the grave with them, so that is possible. Does the monitor turn on and the menu appear (though that may not be an option without a video signal)?

Are you getting any post codes? Single beep?

No.

...and no.

Took it to a friend who knows a little more about it. He said the motherboard is toast. :indiff:

Well, I should be lucky. When I bought that thing (Asus A8V SLi editon) it was I think $140.00. But I got 2 solid years out of it..It's been through quite a few outages, and has never let me down. Since my technology is somewhat obsolete, they're $50. :)
