I thought yesterday that i would try something different to the normal car games and FPS's, and i saw this and thought, why not, moto gp, makes a change, heres my thoughts. Note: i couldnt find the review forum
Its made by Namco, and they have done a great job with it, the game includes the 125, 250 and moto gp classes, 16 circuits and 3 bonus circuits, you can earn points to spend on riders for arcade mode, not sure what else there is, but there is a section in the points shop called "other" so perhaps you can buy new bikes who knows. The circtuis include all the ones off the moto gp calendar, Sahcsenring, Valencia, Le mans, Phaliksi (sp?), and many more.
In the season mode, you can chooose to drive a single season using a real life rider, or you can create your own rider in the options, and use him, starting in the 125 class and working your way up in multiple seasons.
The create a rider doesnt have many options, you do your name, helmet, riding style etc. Theres 3 riding styles to choose from, no idea what they are called but one looks prtty normal, one the rider kinda sits up higher and the 3rd is very low.
The training mode is not to dis-simalair to GT4 licenses, you do all the basics of moving and turning, different types of turns etc and you get a medal depending on your time, the challenges arent that hard but ive only done the basics. These are not compulsory to enter a season.
There are 2 settings to play on, simulation and non-simulation. Says it on the tin really, with simulation turned on it is a lot easier to fall off the bike, obviously i have simulation on. One thing that i dont have on yet is what i would call "uber simulation", turning on certan options gives you more to think about and definatly makes it harder, things like controllling the individual brakes, weight balance of the rider etc, havnt tried these yet and it will be a while before i do!
Right, once your on the track, you will notice how nice the graphics are, the bike models are superb, the rider animations are spot on and the circuits look brilliant and unique. Runs at a very solid 60fps even with 21 bikes on screen. One thing i found odd is there is not the usual over the handlebar view, but a sort of helmet view where you see from the eyes of the driver, this is when you Triangle button becomes the "tear off" button, as dirt collects on your visor.
Onto the AI, on easy its too easy, on medium is still easy and on hard its just about the best AI ive seen. They battle, block, overtake, overtake eachother, battle eachother, sometimes it great to sit behind a couple of riders and watch them battle round the circuit. Going 3 wide round the second to last turn on Jerez is scary stuff! But unlike other games, the AI arent perfect, i was behind one going into a turn, next thing i see is a rider and bike fly across the front of me after he lost control on the exit! Its cool stuff.
Overall this is a great fun game that can be enjoyed by even the smallest of moto gp fans, ive never watched a moto gp race in my life and i still enjoy this. i give it a solid 9 out of 10.
