I thought yesterday that i would try something different to the normal car games and FPS's, and i saw this and thought, why not, moto gp, makes a change, heres my thoughts. Note: i couldnt find the review forum:(

Its made by Namco, and they have done a great job with it, the game includes the 125, 250 and moto gp classes, 16 circuits and 3 bonus circuits, you can earn points to spend on riders for arcade mode, not sure what else there is, but there is a section in the points shop called "other" so perhaps you can buy new bikes who knows. The circtuis include all the ones off the moto gp calendar, Sahcsenring, Valencia, Le mans, Phaliksi (sp?), and many more.

In the season mode, you can chooose to drive a single season using a real life rider, or you can create your own rider in the options, and use him, starting in the 125 class and working your way up in multiple seasons.

The create a rider doesnt have many options, you do your name, helmet, riding style etc. Theres 3 riding styles to choose from, no idea what they are called but one looks prtty normal, one the rider kinda sits up higher and the 3rd is very low.

The training mode is not to dis-simalair to GT4 licenses, you do all the basics of moving and turning, different types of turns etc and you get a medal depending on your time, the challenges arent that hard but ive only done the basics. These are not compulsory to enter a season.

There are 2 settings to play on, simulation and non-simulation. Says it on the tin really, with simulation turned on it is a lot easier to fall off the bike, obviously i have simulation on. One thing that i dont have on yet is what i would call "uber simulation", turning on certan options gives you more to think about and definatly makes it harder, things like controllling the individual brakes, weight balance of the rider etc, havnt tried these yet and it will be a while before i do!

Right, once your on the track, you will notice how nice the graphics are, the bike models are superb, the rider animations are spot on and the circuits look brilliant and unique. Runs at a very solid 60fps even with 21 bikes on screen. One thing i found odd is there is not the usual over the handlebar view, but a sort of helmet view where you see from the eyes of the driver, this is when you Triangle button becomes the "tear off" button, as dirt collects on your visor.

Onto the AI, on easy its too easy, on medium is still easy and on hard its just about the best AI ive seen. They battle, block, overtake, overtake eachother, battle eachother, sometimes it great to sit behind a couple of riders and watch them battle round the circuit. Going 3 wide round the second to last turn on Jerez is scary stuff! But unlike other games, the AI arent perfect, i was behind one going into a turn, next thing i see is a rider and bike fly across the front of me after he lost control on the exit! Its cool stuff.

Overall this is a great fun game that can be enjoyed by even the smallest of moto gp fans, ive never watched a moto gp race in my life and i still enjoy this. i give it a solid 9 out of 10.

I liked Moto GP3, but I finished in about a week and never played it again. I don't think Moto GP4 was released in NA yet but I'll try to get it once it does, judging by your review the game seems pretty cool.

ive played all the moto gp games on x-box but i kinda ignored the ps2 series after the first one disappointed big time.

how does the ps2 version weight up against the x-box. is there any point owning a moto gp game on both platforms?

They're different games. The Xbox version is from THQ, PS2's is from Namco. I've played MotoGP2 on Xbox and I liked it better than MotoGP3 for the PS2, at least in some aspects (specially graphics). But who knows, you might like the PS2 version so you might as well rent it.

Ive played moto gp 2 on xbox, and i can quite safely say that moto gp 4 for ps2 is much much much better than the xbox version, i cant speak for the older versions of the PS2 one as this is the first of them i have played, but from my experiances of both versions its the Namco one i would go for.

That said THQ ones are good i just couldnt get into it like i have the Namco one.

Had a great race at Le Mans.

Had some falls in practice while i got used to the layout, got 18th fastest in practice, in qualifying after 3 laps i pulled a time worthy of 13th place start, in the race (5 laps) i gradually moved up to 11th after 2 laps, then had a fun and intense battle for 10th, he fell on the 3rd hairpin, leaving me to catch up with 9th, wasnt until the last turn that i caught him and just couldnt quite make it past so settled for 10th.

Yes, the settings are: 2 (might be 3, il check later), 5 and fulll moto gp length.

Another thing i forgot to mention with difficulty, not sure if it was in moto gp 3, if you put it on easy, you have access to all 125cc bikes, half of 250cc (b and c) and some moto gp (c), on medium you get some 250cc (c) and half of the 125s (b and c) and on hard you get 6 125s (c) to choose from.

Its done in classes, A being the best ones and C being the slower, so on hard you get the C class 125s to choose from and so on.

Found some unlock which i have purchased with the GP points:

Suzuka '02, Paul Ricard '98 and the BMW 6 series safety car.

Yes to drive:D

The Beamer feels strange, i dunno its like it still has motorcycle physics:lol:
