The thing is though, the Viper does actually have a very capable chassis.

I reckon they just got a very, very bad example of it.
 
I believe they said the Viper had mismatched tires. An ironic repeat of the 1997 test of the Viper GTS where it lost to Ferrari on the track by something like .2 seconds for the same reason. Can't find the article for that one.
 
If SRT can't provide them with a Viper that is well built and has the right tyres on it, what's to say that they won't do the same thing to customers? The execution of the Viper is awful, perhaps the worst I've ever heard of in a modern car.

It was May 1998. The original GTS they had was walking away from everything in most of the tests (the F355 and Esprit V8 nipping at its heels every time by varying margins) except braking and ran up all the way to 192 MPH. Then it blew a water pump during the top speed run, and the one they got to replace it was on mismatched tires.
