Dang, I wonder if they weren't getting the business they once had when they first started importing the Skylines. Also, why is there a ban on the R32 and R34 Skylines but not the R33? Any further information would be appreciated.

Hmmm, lessons learned:

- Don't piss off the US Government
- Pay your bills on time, or get locked out
- Save your money for the new R35 GTR

Ummm, why is he being held, exactly? Surely it's not because he didn't pay his rent. Did he bribe some officials to get them to make the cars legal or something? Seriously, why is he in Jail? And how does that effect the legality of the cars? This article is very confusing.

Probably from monopolizing skylines. What an asshole.

I agree that the report is very poorly written.

This explains a little bit:
wikipedia.com
Many Skylines were subsequently imported through Motorex. This lasted until late 2005, when the NHTSA became informed that not all 1990 through 1999 Skyline models would perform identically in crash testing. Motorex had submitted information for only the R33, and told the NHTSA that it was sufficient for all R32, R33, and R34 models. According the further review by the NHTSA, only 1996-1998 R33 models have been demonstrated as capable of being modified to meet the federal motor vehicle safety standards. As of this writing, only these 1996-1998 models are eligible for importation

So, crash ratings and other non-met regulations are part of this.

That's ok, I love the R33s the most.

Hmm. That's actually rather funny, that Motorex decided to sacrifice an R33 for the crash-test but didn't want to sacrifice an R32 or R34 -- what with the R33 being so unpopular compared to the other two.

The R33 is the best IMO, sure the R34 is nice and all but I still like the R33 better. R32........ meh. But that's one hefty bail. :scared:

GT40 MKII
it dont say why but im guessing its from the rent

No, it can't be for that. In the arrest details on there it says he's being charged with a felony. Failing to pay your rent is not a felony. The arrest must have something to do with importation of the cars themselves. In a6m5's post, it says he lied and claimed the R33 was representative of all three models, when it's actually not, so more than likely, he's been brought up on charges for that.

+1 Definately the best looking of the bunch...I would ONLY want an R33 anyway mainly because the rear isn't jacked up like the R34--to me at least. Oddly sized tail lights don't look right.

Well, aren't there other Skyline importers? Are their owners charged as well?
Its not that.

It's because he pretty much lied to the gov. when he said all 3 cars have the same crash ratings.

There's a couple of threads on this guy on the nissan boards... mostly with the same theme: "I kinda saw this coming..."
