Motorsports lens?

I'm trying to narrow down my next len(s) to buy, but I really am still new to a DSLR, so with that my budget is on the lower end like around $500 for one.

Right now I shoot with 2 kit lens and a Nikon D3100 which I would like more reach since I have Nikon 18-55, 70-200mm; I have no accessories either so that would be helpful of possibly things to buy including filters, tripod, flash.

My thoughts are to find a kind of one size fits all lens that will work for most situations, and also buy a good prime lens for various other things (I really hate carrying similar lens for no reason).

No-brainer! Nikon 70-300 ED-VR. 50% more reach than the 55-200, 1000 times sharper, usable on full-frame down the road, and street price under 500 bucks.

If you'd rather have a more all-in-one lens wider than 70 at the bottom end, then the 18-300, but it's about half again the price.
