Mounting Stand for My Force Feedback Pro Wheel

I made this "stand" to mount my force feedback pro wheel on. The column is made from PVC pipe and PVC closet flanges. The column is double walled PVC - there is a 3" pipe on the inside of the flanges and a 4" pipe on the outside. The middle and the space between the pipes is stuffed with newspaper to help suppress vibration - the force feedback on the wheel is STRONG.

Everything I used to make the stand was bought at Lowes. I had to buy way more material than I needed and I ended up with enough for two stands. It was a little pricey to build but if you could find a friend to split the supplies it would be cheap.

The end result works very well and adds a lot of "effect" to the GT3. I can't wait to try GT4 with a full 900 degrees of rotation.

cool! you should get a patent! (make sure the patent office worker isn't Einstein, or he'll steal it!). make it out of blac plastic or metal and it'll be very cool! (i know you probably dont have the resources)
 
Nice setup, keeps the place looking tidy, you get the right position without a big metal frame in the middle of the room.
 
ooo thats really nice 👍 I've often thought of making a better lap attachment for my (old) driving force wheel, since one it comes with is crap & it won't fit on my table or desk :(
 
That's pretty cool. Out of curiosity, how much in parts did your setup cost?

I had a thread over in the Prologue Forum talking about making a cockpit setup as well (with a little bit of bad news inside).

I have about $85 in the materials not including the chair, TV, or wheel itself. I had to buy a full 4 X 8 sheet of plywood and 10' long sections of both the 3" and 4" pipes which really drove the price up. If you could find a friend to share the cost with, another $10 for more nuts and bolts and two more closet flanges would give you enough supply to build two.

I already had the chair. It is $80 from Ikea.com. Or you could obviously size the stand to accommodate a chair you already have.

Cant wait to get that wheel, i seen it for the first time last night at Video Game Play Heaven. $299 Aus. I was tempted to flop out cash there and then, but i thought that i might hold off for a little while...something to look forward to.
 
that's pretty cool...but what about your legs? They'd have to wrap around the pvc piping =\ Doesn't that get uncomfortable. I'd hate to start walking bow-legged after a GT4 session...

Hehe... that looks like a good setup too. Not as showy, but it looks like it does the job. Its actually connected the the chair, right?
 
Did you add a metal plate to the accelerator yourself or does it come like that? I seen that wheel for the first time just the other night and i didnt notice that it has a metal plate on the gas controller.

Yes. I measured the width of the chair and
I made the GTFstand. It's stronger then it looks.


That metal accelerator pedal is only 3$ ,
and this pedal is for real car accessory.
Just fit for RX-7. I'll buy brake pedal and foot rest
someday.
 
I have no problems getting my legs around the post. Its only 4" in diameter. Very comfortable for long sessions. Notice that the pedals are offset to the right. This puts the pedals right in front of your right leg. This may be a problem if you left foot brake.

Finally got around to building mine. Since the pictures were taken, the cords were attached to the frame, surround sound speakers were added, a cup holder was added, and its great!!! The seat was off a Nissan 200SX and I got it for $25! One of my buddies suggested covering it in black low pile carpet like a cars interior, so I think that will be next weeks project. All in all it cost me about $75 to build and took 2 hours :) The seat is fully adjustable, front back and recline.
 
Here's mine, only spent about $30.00 on it. I cut two slots in the top to slide the clamps into so it tightens down, only problem is that your knuckles scrape and full lock on the old wheel.

Hehe Random...It even looks like it's in a classroom. Very ingenious. Whene'd you get a school desk from anyway?
