Well I told my brother I would help him make a movie for the film festivel at his school, the basic plot is two hitmen get a job from a crimelord. A undercover cop gets hooked up with the hitmen to try to take them down, but in the end they figure it out and there is a big shoot out. It takes place in the 80's so out clothes are a little weird and so is our hair.

Anyways I was wondering if anyone has ever made a realistic movie before? I need some advice on how to go about making it. Me and my best friend are the hitmen, since my brother can't be in the movie. So I'm just looking for tips.

I'll include some pictures so you can get an idea of how stupid we look. When it came to make time I had greased back hair and different glasses and my buddy had greasy curley hair.

Here is me. Note the orange leather sport coat.

My buddy with his peach sport coat and aviator glasses.

What's hitmen without gun?

Try to take out of the shot the things that aren't from your specific time period - certain brands, technology, etc. Perhaps electrical tape the ends of the guns. Make sure any accents and lingo you use stays consistant throughout the movie.

Pay attention the lighting of different shots, as well as any outside noise. And don't rush through the production - even if it takes six takes before the scene is done perfectly, it usually is worth it with the end result. Sounds like fun, good luck!

Haha, I agree with greg, it'll be like vice city meets a comedic genre.

Note the retainer of the hit man, the mikes hard lemonade, the see-thru plastic lighter, the new coke cans, the new coke boxes for fridges, the pepsi twist, and the black webcam on the bar counter.

For starters, you could try not to use the basic idea of the plot from Reservoir Dogs ;)

Lighting is EVERYTHING. It'll make it or break it
Make sure you have your cameras on rolling tripods or make sure you have large studio type camcorders which are easier to hold
Make sure your camera people can point a camera properly - I can't stress enough how often a movie goes bad due to bad camera work
As important as lighting is the audio. Dont use the microphone on the camera, it's too far away and gives an extremely distanced sound which can make even good acting seem bad.

While bright colors were big in the 80's dont have everybody wearing garish colors. After all, you're professional hitmen, not clowns. It's ok if one guy wears it, after all, you need someone to set him/herself apart, right?

That's a start. I'll add more as I come up with them.

Well me and my brother were filming early this morning, we are sort of making it a spoof type movie based off of Dirty Hairy, Reservior Dog, Pulp Fiction, etc. Hell we even have a guy kill someone with a chainsaw. But ya it's meant to be funny.

A lot of the plot and ideas were taken from Vice City though and we are thinking about calling the movie Ventura Blvd. because that's werer the final scence takes place.

It won't be a long moive, about 10 minutes or so, I'll be sure and post it for you all to see once I get it done.

Thanks for the tips though, I rely em on.

Well we've shot the opening scene (about 10 minutes worth), and it's all edited. We've started work on some of the other scenes but they are story boards right now, we are also awaiting a buddy of mine to de winterize his Chevelle SS and 80's Monte Carlo so we can use that instead of my truck.
