mozilla ate explorer

well i have two browsers. mozilla firefox and internet explorer. i usually use mozilla but i was still able to use IE if i wanted to. well the other day i closed a brower, then my whole screen flashed. and my IE icon was replaced with a mozilla firefox icon, but it still says internet explorer at the bottom. when i click on it it brings up a mozilla browser. what is this?

I remember a few weeks back that there was an exploit in Firefox that allowed an attacker to disable Internet Explorer through Firefox.

edit: Yup, this vulnerability was discovered two months ago.

Running Ad-aware once or twice is not enough. Just because you're running Firefox doesn't mean you're elite or invulnerable from attacks. Here is what you need to do:

• Update Firefox (current version is 1.0.4)
• Run a scan with SpyBot
• Check starup processes
• Run Spyware Blaster
• Install a firewall

And turn off Java in Firefox.

Java web applets are pretty rare nowadays. It's all gone to Flash.
