i need help finding a racing muffler for a 1972 bug. if you know any can you give me a site or some info on it. it would be nice if you found a universal muffler , like on that goes on like a toyota or a honda. thanks if you find any.

The muffler for a Beetle if quite specific to the model, becuase of the boxer/dual exhaust set up, so you won't find anything that will fit on another car aswel.

That said, what type of engine is it? If it's a 1300cc, just forget about it. Too slow to bother, if it's a 1600cc you might still have some fun with it. I would sugest getting some double weber carbs tough if you are serious about it, and in that case, locate a local specialist in Beetle parts. You'd be supriced what can be done with the car both for looks and performance wise. Of course for best performance an engine swap is teh way to go. Either a retuned modded Type 1 (beetle) engine or go with the option of a 2litre type 4 or even a Porsche engine.

If you are going to work on upgrading the engine you'll likely have to do some changes to the front of teh car. Beetles tend to "climb up" over their front wheels if driven hard into a turn. If you're beetle is a 1302 or 1303 you'll have less of a problem with it as it has better front end suspension as to the older models.

Been looking up on the internet under "super Beetle" by the pictures I've found it's a 1303 (you can tell by the curved windscreen as opposed to the flat ones on previous models including the 1302).

I'm not sure but I think 1303 came with a 1600 standert and '72 was its launch year. (I used to have a '70 1300 Semi Automatic)

I know Bugpack makes a number of kits for the SuperBeetle. Another company, Pace Setter makes a few kits but I am not sure if they are very good in the performance department. You know you could just go pick up an issue of VW Trends at your local newstation.

If you ONLY get a muffler, it most likely wont do absolutely anything for you besides make your car sound meaner and louder (most 4 cylinders sound like fart cans when they only have the muffler though. It sounds nasty in my opinion). But anyway, if you want horsepower get the full exhaust system. Of course, it will be more money, but it will sound nicer, louder, and make your car a bit faster.

Pace Setter is complete garbage. I had one of their systems on my old '68. A well known and respected company in the beetle/bug aftermarket industry is Gene Berg.

It will cost you though...
