Would this be possible within the GT5 platform -- Multi-class Aspec races like many run around the world?
• 3-6 class regulations
• driver chooses a car regulated for a specific class – highest and lowest class not available to choose
• run the race with cars from higher and lower classes on the track at the same time
• receive rewards based on place in class and perhaps for overall finish among all classes

I don’t know if this would be possible but it would be interesting and fun to run a 10-20 lap race against cars in your class and with others both faster and slower than yours.
💡

I took part in an online event a couple of months back that had 2 classes in it at the same time, RM Golfs and RM Corvettes, was a really cool event as well, very different! But it was all held online by willing participants sticking to the rules, and payouts weren't class based, just standard.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to implement in a game in A-spec, but it is alot different to what's possible now, unless you fancy bodging together an online version haha. But in A-spec it's non existant

A Le Mans style race with classes for GT's and LMP1/2 etc would be epic to see and participate in though, but isn't really possible with just 16 cars imo.

I'm actually having plans on an online series for the RM and TC cars, with two different classes racing at the same time. Of course, the race would have to end when the leader finishes, but the points will just have to be awarded for the position everyone have when that occurs.

My plans involves some more features I would like to see in GT5, like a pace car and a team system. I've started to build a website for the project, it's not complete yet but some info is up. If you want to know more, check out http://touringteamseries.blogspot.com/

I like you idea.

MindlessRiff -- I would really love to se Le Mans style races within the A-Spec format in some future generation of the game.

This is a really good idea!!

I just added a "follow by e-mail" feature to the blog so you will get notified when there are new news regarding the series :)
I will create a thread about it in the forums here as well, but there is still some work in progress regarding practical matters...

Edit: Oh, and today I bought and customized the pace car, it's a gorgeous Mercedes-Benz C63!

Absolutely loving this! The concept is brilliant, and the two classes in my opinion are perfect for both beginners and more advanced drivers wanting to take part in a series. I will certainly be looking forward to this starting up! Is there anywhere to sign up on the site yet? Lol

Oh and the Pace Car looks mint! However I have one question about it. If and when there is a crash, who will be driving it? Also I assume they will technically be a part of the race yet be in last place for the entire race and get both credit and exp?

Check my sig. Our ALMS series does it quite successfully. We're on season 3. Wouldn't be hard to incorporate into seasonals or something.

Well, the pace car thing is under construction, as I said :)
One solution could be that the race marshal (like, me, or if someone else is interested in joining the "staff" for this) drives it in the beginning of the race for the formation lap, and once the race starts he exits and enters the view race mode to manage the race from there.

The second solution could be that there are two race marshals, one in the view race mode and one in the pace car. That way the pace car could come out for fictional events that occurs, like oil on the track or some nasty debris after a collision.

Personally I like the second solution best, it would be great to add some unforseen events that happens in real life racing.

The pace car would of course finish last, and the driver would get some xp and cash (not a lot though), but not any points in the championship as he is not taking part there. The main incentive for a race series like this would not be cash and xp, it would be simply for enjoying a good race. It's pretty much the same situation for the class B cars, I doubt any of those would ever finish 1st, but they will still get their points in the championship.

You can start to sign up now already. It will take some time before the season can start, probably late November or early December. So plenty of time to find some good drivers for your team, and a nice colour for your cars :)

I just added instructions for registration here: http://touringteamseries.blogspot.com/p/teams_07.html

This just keeps getting better. However, besides the online (fantastic idea) I really want PD to get some feedback to check the feasibility of making something like this as a seasonal A-Spec

I would love to see multi class racing in the 24 hour endurances, there's so many cars I would love to do those races in, but they're not LMP's...

Your idea looks good, I drive the pace car for the Indy series. I do it to help them out and for some reason its not a chore, it works too. If I spot a 2+ car crash I call a caution and get the pack together (wavearounds etc). Then release them after a couple of caution laps, I even call the pits open/closed and start the race with a formation.
I guess it just adds to the realism.

This is an intresting idea. I like it.💡

What happens if a team member can't make the race? I guess it's business as usual, or will there be a penalty involved?

Being honest, I'd rather join an existing team than have my own lol! If there are any takers lol.

No penalties involved for that. The race dates will be announced well ahead, so each team should be able to plan ahead which drivers are available that date. For the team championship, each team can chose two cars that will collect points for them, and those cars can change from race to race. So if a driver can't make a specific race it's not the end of the world for the team. The only thing that suffers is that the driver will not collect any points in the drivers championship when he/she is gone.

The team structure will be like this, each team will get a page with their info, their cars and their drivers. If they are looking for drivers they can have that written on their page (just like my team, Arctic Racing, has done).

Would you be interested in driving the pace car for the TTS? :)

I've opened a forum thread dedicated for the TTS, you find it here

Also, comments can be submitted to the blog. Feedback and suggestions would be great :)

A bit on the long side for the average player LOL, But there ar different in 2 races that spring to mind both A-spec 24hrs, but yes shorter versions would be great both on and offline.

I would have if it wasnt for work/kids/FGTC/Indycar and uncharted 3 :)
Thanks for asking though!

In ALMS we decided against a pace car because it seemed difficult to implement and in multi-class racing we wanted that extra spot open for a driver. But I always wondered how it would work and thought it would be neat if someone were able to use this effectively. Curious if there are any snags with the use of a pace car.

For it to work you need the following.
1. Pace driver has a few training sessions to make sure they know excactly what to do.
2. Every single driver can hear instructions as they are issued.

Thats it :)

The only problem we had in the 2nd pre season (daytona I think) was a really poor driver who was taking someone out at every restart. I came out like 5 times and 90% of the race was under caution, not fun. After that guy 'left' it worked perfectly.

I guess in this series it's up to the teams to make sure their drivers are up to par with the job. Too bad you can't drive the pace car for us, but thanks for the advice :)
