Multi-screen set-up for GT4

:sly: Alrighty, kiddies, gather 'round. This thread, unlike my last one (GT4 in the Shadows), is much more sound (htr!!!). So, here it goes:

I think that the coolest nifty thing that GT4 could do to be more realistic doesn't involve super-hardcore physics or any of that "nonsense". Instead, if GT4 wants to be a really realistic simulator, it should allow gamers to use a multi-screen set-up. Just think about it. There you are sitting in your lounge chair, in front of the Driving Force Pro that's sitting in your lap. You've got your snacks to your left, and a stack of strategy guides and car magazines to your right. And just a few feet ahead, there's your lovely PS2 playing GT4 on not one, not two, but three t.v.s', each one working in sync with each other to give you a full, truly accurate view of the course. Even sweeter, PD could go the extra mile and include a set-up where the player could sit in a special chair set that has 4-5 t.v.s' attached to it (all encasing you, the driver, and giving you a truly realistic view of the course like the pros' get). The chair would even have the DFP, PS2, and a copy of GT4 assembled with it. I think that'd be sweet. What do you guys think? :sly:

I guess this is not a very bright idea, it will just take up a lot of rooms. Come on, its just a game. I would rather spend the $$ on a real car instead of the T.V.s and the "Special Chair".

:sly: Yeah, and even if each of those t.v.s' were a thousand bucks, the system 150 moolahs, and the game 50 bones, it'd come out to a final sticker of between 4.2-5.2 grand. Much cheaper than any new car, especially all these crappy sedans. And I'd take the "Special Chair" over any single car at the same price (or over) any day. Plain and simple. :sly:

You can buy a decent used car for 4-5 grand. I'd rather have a life and car.

See, this is why you wanna do some research before you post, GT3 and GT4 both support up to six screens at the same time, of course this comes at a cost, you would need 6 PS2's and 6 copies of GT3 or GT4 to do it, oh, and firewire capable PS2's (not sure about GT4 for that one, they might implement it for LAN too, but don't hold your breath)

i'm not sure if now that you can have both LAN and firewire connectivity you could play multiplayer on it.

now, i'm not 100% sure GT4 will support this, but since GT3 did it's pretty safe to assume they won't take it out, the code is there.. plus, there's proof of GT4 running in 3 monitors at the same time (they have a subaru sim that has 3 screens)
it's a cool concept, but expensive. in the end a PS3 with 1280x720 res would probably give you more real estate than 3 monitors hooked up. (hopefully by then we'll have various cockpit views)

and i defenetly don't see better physics as "nonsense" it's the one area the GT series can seriously improve.

"Physics" in the Gt4 system is advanced as it gets.. The A.I needs to be reprogrammed courtesy Kumite Mode ;)

well, that's what it's said these days, hopefully it will be true, but untill we can see for ourselves (or i read the opinions of ture simers) the jury is still out.

GT4P sure as hell didn't have outstanding physics, but it's said that the GT4 builds from E3 and up are improved a lot. again, untill we can verify this for ourselves there's no way we can know just how much it was improved, most of the people playing the BMW demo are claming realistic physics.. i wonder how, because those same guys are the ones releasing the videos, which are being played with the dual shock and that doesn't look or plays realisticly at all.

in the end. i can't wait for the GT4 BMW demo to see what that "all new phyisics engine" is all about.

(they have a subaru sim that has 3 screens)

I've heard that this version has 3 PS2's running in Tandem to create this...

And that wouldn't surprise me as you would need to generate all the gfx data 3 times for each camera view?!

That all sounds absolutely horrible. Mind-numbingly horrible! I guess I am not a hardcore gamer, well I only play the GT series and given the chance would prefer to go outside and surf.

But hey that is me. You stick with it there buddy and make sure you go outside at least once a week.

Do you, perchance, own a 'special chair'? ;)

GT4 supports (I believe) 8 screens. I know it supports a full wraparound screen setup. I have an aquantince who works for SCEA, and, while he's not full time on the GT4 project, he still gets to play it on a regular basis. (I believe they have several "arcade machines" set up in the lounge, or something like that.)

As mentioned in the refered thread above, I don't know how to get the different (left-side & right-side) multiview views, either. Does anyone know how to select them? There seems to be no obvious way in the menus.

Also, is the console iLink number order based on the console's serial number or some other type of serialed number in the system? I have two different PS2s, from two different production series and the newer one is number 1.

I'd really like to gt this working.

Cheers,

MasterGT
