As many people have stated, it seems unlikely that there will be only one disk. I would not be suprised if there were a dedicated GT World disk. Arcade/Network mode would be on another disk? What is licensing going to be like? Demos again, or videos? I would love to see Tsuchiya or Orido talking about total balance. Or Nomuken teaching how to do exhibition drift. That would be absolutely super!
Any Speculation on the disk thing though? (I got carried away).

Couldn't they make it on a dual-layer dvd disc? It would be wise to bundle the network mode on a separate one tho...

I would like to see an adapter bundle. I did not think that the PS2's optical drive could read dual layer DVDs. And they are kindof pricey, are'nt they?

Yeah, there are several dvd9 disc games that have been released, including Metal Gear Solid Substance and Xenosaga. I don't know what it would cost to the publisher, but PD is part of Sony, so they should have no problems ;)

one way they can do it is unload the game onto the HD so that it can fit on 1 CD. but then what is gonna happen to those who dont have the HD? hmmm... this is a tricky one...

i can guarantee that it'll be a dvd9 game. Manufacturing costs are only pennies more for these disks. DVD9 also has the benefit of being impossible to copy for the time being. Even if anybody copies it, they won't be able to take the game online due to DNAS protection.

From what they're saying this game will have, it is very possible that they will have it released as a 2 disk dvd9 set. Either way, lets just wait and find out :)

You can rip the dvd9 as a dvd5 disc, and there are anti-DNAS protection patches already out...

How can you rip it to a DVD5? You'd have to either compress the files or use two discs, both of which would require some reprogramming of the game.

Compress certain files, maybe fmv's or music files. It's been done for every dvd9 ps2 game so far. And it's not that hard, there are certain dvd progs that do it.

Depends on the content, what we're compressing here isn't anywhere near a movie file.

I didn't vote for anything because I'm not entirely sure, I do get the feeling it'll be multiple discs, in fact I was the first person I saw bring this up in another thread. I think Network/Arcade Mode would be fine on a separate disc if they've got space problems; so long as they implement the Metal Gear Solid approach and let you hot-swap. Having to restart in GT2 was a pain. Considering the ability of the PS2 to remount media, even if you put the wrong disc in, it still holds the current memory information and awaits the correct one, hot swapping can't be that difficult to implement.

What is DVD9 disc im a bit ignorant in the technicalities of such things.

My question is does the PS2 have the ability to read dual layer discs?

I was starting to wonder with all the Cars, Tracks, game elements and music that PD is promising if it would fit one disc, and had never heard anything about the PS2 ability to use dual layer Discs for games.

But recently I have read that GTA san andreas is all ready so big that they are gonna have to go Dual layer on that.

I hope Dual layering is possible as i wouldnt really want to see the 2 disc debarcle appear again, although i would rather hope that HDD download of the entire game is possible as that would be my preffered option.

i dont care about what kind or how many discs the game is one, just give us the game NOW!

The way I see it the more disks it is on the more cars and tracks and info there will be...

Although as Eagle says... defs has to be made so we can change disks without turning off.

The PS2 doesn't suffer too badly with dual layer DVD movie discs, can't imagine game discs would cause it hassle. DVD9 is just the dual layer standard that allows you to get 9.6GB (9.4?) onto a DVD disc, as far as I'm aware.

I'd have it on 27 disks, aslong as i can play it sooner than Nov 04!

I had Discworld for the PC before I had a CD-rom drive... it had 30 floppy disks to install it... Typically the first copy I had had an error on disk 24... and I had to get a second copy!!

Fortunately the install was clever and allowed me to resume installing!!

I have Xenosaga (US version) and it causes a little delay in booting on my Messiah2'ed PAL PS2, but apart from that it works just fine. There are copied versions of it, but the video/audio sequences have been compressed and it looks crap compared to the original. Like someone said, there isn't much video/audio content in GT4 (Well compared to a game like Xenosaga, which was mostly video/audio) so to copy it would probably require removing stuff, which would suck eggs. I remember seeing a CD-R version of GT3, it had the car models with the lights on removed and it sucked.
