Multiples of Stickies?

I haven't been back through the GT section of GTPlanet in a while, so I decided to take a visit.

I stumbled across the GT4 forum and wondered if there might be something of interest here. And as I strolled in and took a look around, I saw 6 stickies about 3 topics, none of which to the point nor informative enough (IMO) to be a sticky.

I figure, if you added all the facts from all 6 stickies you might, just maybe, have one good thread worth discussion. I was hoping to find a couple recent shots of the game, uninterrupted by chit-chat; a detailed write-up, up-to-date, of when Polyphony Digital was planning to release the title; and a Car Line-up worth reading, not a spam list of every car in existance.

After figuring out that there is a flaw in the GT4 forum, I figured this: "If anyone were to sit down and derive every USEFUL piece of information in the stickies, we might have 3 dam good stickies." But, that would take some serious time and effort. (Most of which my 3 jobs won't allow.) So, why don't we section off three good typoligists (My fancy word for really good at english) to organize the strewn mess scattered through the huddled mass of useless stickies.

Now, with that being said, there probably would be an advantage to having such a clean representation of the Future of GT4. It would represent the Forums well, causing a better income of new members and an overall well-being of the current ones. It would also make us more organized as a forum, thus providing a better source of information to keep current members coming back.

Is there anybody out there, much like JohnBM01, with the capabilities to sift out all the useful information and make a decent outline/guideline of the GT4 stickies?

Mr. Toyo, I've been on here since December 5, 2003. I seen all kinds of needs and wants for GT4. I thank you for the support and praise you've given to me, but let me see if I can speak on this one.

If you ask me, you're right. Too much work. Here's the deal. Who knows more about Gran Turismo 4 than anyone else? Polyphony Digital. If PD keeps their data classified, then all the media and GT fans (like us) can only imagine what GT4 will be like. For as much as I know, we can probably expect to see New York, Tsukuba, Fuji, Citta di' Aria, Grand Canyon, Hong Kong, Amalfi, Nanjenzi (correct spelling?), Paris, Laguna Seca, and maybe even Suzuka and some other surprises. In terms of cars, I'll name a few we can probably expect: Toyota Celica Trial Tuning Car, Spoon Sports Fit/Jazz Race Car, FINA McLaren F1 GTR, 350Z/Fairlady Z and LM models, 350Z/Fairlady Z S-Tune, Powerhouse Amuse Honda S2000, Honda HSC (maybe), Ford GT and GT40, Ford Model T, Chevy Corvette (most or all models), most of the updated JGTC cars, Ginetta G20, that Honda vintage car from some of the Amalfi shots... that's to name a few.

But for now, looking forward to what GT4 is like is like predicting the weather. You can't tell what will actually be made until you experience the experience at hand. To put it mildly, all we can do is guess. And on GTPlanet, I try to restrict my "will a/an/the ******** be in GT4" questions, any "wishlists," or what-have-you. You see, my guess about GT4 is as good as mine. I come into these topics not to formulate wishlists, but I want to discuss what would be a nice fit for GT4. Even if features will not make it into the game, I want to at least discuss certain things. To me, it's:

idea -> post -> await replies -> clarify and continue topic

Because after all, I'm as curious about GT4 as anyone else is. I love Gran Turismo, and I have my own heart as to how a game of this magnitude should be. I am only a suggestive person. I don't work for PD, I don't work for Sony Japan, I don't work for Sony America, I don't work for any game magazine, I am just a normal human being living life and talking GT4. I don't know what is in the game, so that is why I want to be suggestive. I think I'm doing a favor for GTPlanet by talking about topics that may or may not impact GT4. And I'm not going to stoop to a low of "cancel all GT4 threads until GT4 is released" because my interest in GT4 coupled with the collective interests of other GT fans = COMMUNITY. So I'm thankful to talk about GT, and even when GT4 is released, I still want to talk about what makes the game good, what makes it bad, what could have been better, et cetera. I want to keep talking about it as long as I have a career and a home on GTPlanet.

But as far as bringing all collective ideas together, too challenging. We can try, but it won't be easy. Best thing you can do is do searches on GT4 threads here and answer any old topics. Even if it is an update. Anyhow, I'm done here speaking my mind (all of it!). Next reply (if any)?

Well, I take your thoughts kindly, but I must say a few things in reply.

I can understand that there are wishlists in existance on the GT4 forum, but I'm not so sure that they should exist in every thread. They just seem to cause clutter and make scanning for information, near impossible. They add pagecounts to threads containing valuable data and make it a struggle to search through and find the information needed to answer the questions at hand.

This is why I think we should have more designated threads to certain ideas. I really like the whole wishlist idea, and strongly support other's ideas, but not in a release date thread. It just makes finding the actual release date a pain. I have admirations of my own, of which I keep to myself. (Much like you.) And I have grown to accept the unpredictable timing of PD on release dates, and can understand why, "If perfection is what you seek, why stop 10ft. short."

Now, I wouldn't mind going through and hitting one topic hard, ie. GT Pics, and organize one thread with every photo ever posted anywhere in chronological order. But, when it comes to three different topics, that's way too much work for me alone.

I like your style when you write, skipping no lyrical additive in your work, which provides long, wordy, understandable, and inspiring posts. Truly something to be desrired, from my point of view. That's why I was hoping others, like you, would step forward and take on the challenge. I think it would make things a little cleaner for this forum.

Your entire second paragraph could be used as a better sticky then the majority of the ones in use right now. You were to the point, informative, and included a hint to be desired, which will wet appetites nationwide.

I only want the cleanest version of GTP available, is all. And, I'm in search of info. without using the less then desireable search button.

It sure is :D

Threads do seem to go off topic pretty consistently, everything turns into a wishlist. I'm a GTP n00b else I'd offer to scan through the threads and help out, be it appending information to the original post as relevant news crops up, or simply cutting down on the less relevant posts. In my mind, normal threads are more for discussion and banter, Stickies and Announcements are meant to be sources of information - clean, quick and simple sources at that. I personally don't like having to skim through hundreds of posts to try and piece together the real car list or some release info, but sitting down and doing that, in a manner everyone will appreciate, that's got a giant "Mammoth Task" stamped on it. At the moment when a thread becomes a sticky it just means people take more notice and post more replies, diluting the relevance of whatever was initially posted. Threads like "Let's make a GT4 car list" don't need to be a sticky because people reply so often they bump to the top anyway.

I'm a fond believer that even noobs can be good members, and Eagle, you just proved me correct.

There is really nothing holding you back from doing as mentioned, and I would back you 100% in your efforts to get whichever topic you planned to crop, stickied in place of the useless ones in use right now. I'm not so sure as to if John would back you, but he seems like a fair enough guy to understand hard work and probably even back you as well.

I'd say pick a topic, sort through the useless jibber-jabber, and post a useful thread with only the essentials. That'd be 10 times better then the ones in use currently. I can already see that you don't post-whore and have a valiant point to conversation, so go for it.

I meant to say "my guess about GT4 is as good as yours." But I kind of see what this is about. I'm not going to make rants, but I like to think of a thread as a conversation. When you talk about one thing, it can reach into something off-tangent. For example, the thread about physcial damage, and I mentioned "can pigs fly?" And after my reply, I see all of these pigs with wings. Enough to get me to go nuts. But, to keep to the topic is done anyways as people relate to a topic at hand.

I guess you can say that people talking about the length of my posts could have been on some other thread. But for the most part, people will have to try to look at a topic, think about it, and provide comments. It is the only way and the best way to get things done. Part of a thread's success is based on the ideas expressed by the person who made the thread, and the other is done by people who have something to contribute something positive to it. But if you come up with topics like "Muscle Car Supporters Looking for Trouble," you'll get some supporters, but not really. As you know, that thread was closed (as was others F-Body started). So as far as patching up many GT4 points scattered elsewhere into one thread, it would mean a lot of posting and searching. So, as said in a cartoon once, "Gold is where you find it."

If you ask me, with GTPlanet's help and contributions, and my collection of ideas, we can envision something very similar to what COULD become of Gran Turismo 4 once it hits shelves. To me, I love Gran Turismo, I'm going to love Gran Turismo 4, and I hope my love of this upcoming game can be given out evenly to the GTPlanet community. My love of GT will be given out with my insight and views as to what GT will be about. I won't stoop to ridiculous threads talking about things that don't really relate to GT4. I seen "Grand Canyon Sky Debate," "Facts about GT4," and stuff like that. So I don't think I can ever take the ideas from other threads to come up with this compilation of thoughts, ideas, and jokes (if any). To me, the GTPlanet public that participates in coming up with comments and ideas about GTPlanet are only giving ideas as to what GT4 will be like. Why give ideas? We are basically GT fans. When we hear of a new GT game, we are given information, we are given pictures, and we may be given pictures to give us a true-to-life idea as to what the next game will be like. It doesn't matter if you are CobraGT, Pimp Racer, Kart Racer, MiniMADness, Baby Girl, McLaren's Angel, or whomever. We are all only hoping that what we envision GT4 will be will be at least 50+ percent of what we have posted since our respective debuts to GTPlanet. Sharing ideas has kept us together, even if the ideas we expressed ended up as CLOSED threads or flaming sessions.

So let's keep at it, folks.

I knew what you meant to say, was just a harmless prod as you're pretty verbose, it's easy for those slip ups to find their way in amongst oh so many words. However, taking the time to actually express all your thoughts in a comprehensive manner is something I see so rarely on forums I truly appreciate it - I'm never left questioning just what it is you think and feel about a topic, you lay it all out. That's a good thing.

You're also right that a thread's information is the sum of it's posts. Threads are meant to evolve over time as new information comes to light. So to go through and cut out the irrelevant posts would be a bad idea, because it breaks the atmosphere of discussion that makes those threads so valuable in the first place. To go through and simply collate the relevant information is a far better idea. So how about dedicating a thread to the discussion of a major topic, ie one of the 3 main Stickies we have atm, meanwhile we have a closed Sticky mirroring the subject of discussion of that thread, which serves as an abstract for the information in it. As people post new, relevant information, it gets added to the sticky thread so it's easier for people to access, but they're not prohibited from evolving the topic as it rightfully should. I'd be happy to pick one of the major threads atm and go through summarising the most relevant information, granted I won't start until at least after this weekend, or when I finish my university assignment - whichever comes first.

BTW toyomatt, thanks for the vote of confidence.

If you guys want to get together and compile these - and I suggest doing it offline, in a text document, then posting - I'll help by stickying and locking the new threads with good information (and opening them upon request for updates). Much like ///M-Spec and I did with the "Pocket Guide" on the GT3 Tuning Board.

Thanks Neon for understanding where we come from. I personally think that style of sticky is the best we have on GTP, simply because we can limit the crap allowed onto it.

I'll start on a topic next week, simply because I have finals this week, and I'm flying home this weekend. But, next week, I'll have 3 days free to do some work on one topic. Just to make it simpler, is there any topic that you guys want me to start on first? I could do any single one of them, but I think it would be best to have you guys choose.

Also, you are welcome, Eagle, for the +vote. I just think you had a better submission to our conversation then a simple, yet not so helpful, "Yeah, you guys should do that," response.

Keep up the awesome work, because it's rare to see such members do so well on GTP.
