Does anyone know of or where I can find any good music editing software I can download off the internet for free?

The main features I need is the ability to chop music, speed up and slow down and also flip music so it plays backwards.

I haven't had much chance to use it, but Audacity is supposed to be one of the better free audio editing programs around. It's completely free, rather than being a free trial, and as far as I remember it does everything you need it to, plus a lot more besides. 👍

Wavepad is really good and it's free too... the trial expires (well, duh) but the 'free' version seems to function extremely well (I haven't noticed any huge differences)...Here's an example of something I made with Wavepad after the trial expired.

Im with jammyozzy on this, I use Audacity for allot of stuff, and the features are great for a totally free bit of kit.

My friend Lachlan and I always use Goldwave to edit Rodney Rude clips, and other songs. I think it's better than Audacity, but that's my opinion. I highly recommend Goldwave 👍

My dad is using Audacity a lot. He's having a great time using it to record him playing guitar, singing, and he even dug out his old keyboard to use with it.

The rest of my family is not enjoying Audacity. :P

I use Audacity. It does everything you'll want it to and more. I'm pretty sure it'll reverse stuff too, but I haven't used it in a while.

Ok I downloaded Audacity. Pretty good, easy to use but I cant work out how to save the file as MP3. All I see is 'Save Project' which saves it as a AUP file which is useless to me.

EDIT: Never mind, checked their FAQ's

Try a direct mp3 encoder like mp3 Direct Cut. I haven't used it much but it should be good. :)

Yea its pretty cool, nice and simple but basic.

Is it possible to separate the voice and music so I can an instrumental and acapella of any track? Can this be done with Audacity or will I have to download another program:indiff:

I don't think any program can do that with a single mp3, the song is encoded togheter. You may lower the instruments volume a bit, but not separate it from the voice track.

You can kind of take out the vocal track.

First you have to split out the stereo track into two separate mono tracks.

Then you have to pan both tracks either left or right just as long as they are panned the say way.

Then you have to reverse phase one of the tracks.

Lastly, save the file back as a stereo track.
There are different programs that will allow you do this and several tutorials on the net if you google it.

Using this process, you're not really separating the vocal track, you are eliminating the information in the center of the mix which is usually where the vocal (and bass and kick) usually sit. You still end up with all the ambient effects used on the vocal track. This method of removing vocals is a hit and miss depending on how it was recording and if it sits dead center in the Left to Right spectrum.

Good luck and have fun.
