Xbox??? Who is this Xbox??
My dad wants a muscle car and he can't really decide between a 2010 or 2008 V6 Mustang or a V6 Camaro. My dad told me that he used to stare at the silver horse of a Mustang whenever he saw one and it was his dream car. But, now he wants to see which one is more practical, better bang for the buck and better in the tough, salty Canadian snow.

Were this 2002, I'd say CAmaro, hands down.

But it's 2009. Ford Mustang. Less expensive, less weight, and handles better for it.

Of course, used, and a GT model.

Uhm... Mustang.

I don't even fit inside the new Camaro. There's less headroom than an NB Miata.

And I'm only 6' or so.

Engine wise - The Camaro wins. From my opinion everything else is in favor of the Mustang

^But the Camaro weighs a good 600 pounds more than the Mustang, so handling gap isn't as big as you'd think. From what I've heard, it's a nose-heavy pig.

Anyway, you're comparing a V6 Mustang to a base Camaro? There's really no comparison there. The Camaro has 90 more horses and will kill the Mustang in pretty much everything. Step up to the GT, and then you're talking. But, like RJ said, if you're (or your dad, for that matter) over 6', then you might as well forget the 'Maro.

Camaro doesn't make much sound either. I saw one today and was trying to find its engine sound amongst the traffic. Nothing to be heard. My mom's Lincoln Aviator makes more noise.

How can you say "V6" and "Muscle car" in the same sentence? Tell your dad to save up so he can afford the boy version, not the girl version, and get a V8 that will make him happier in the end. It will also keep him from telling people "yeah, I plan to drop a V8 into her one day" which everyone knows will never happen.

If the Mustang is his dream car listen now and listen carefully, next year the V6 Mustang is upgraded to a new 3.7L DOHC V6 that will reportedly make some 310hp, go for that or broke I say! At the same time it gets the 5.0L alloy block V8 for GT models, which will also be awesome, but even the V6 model should run with and maybe even beat the 370Z for example in some instances.

I would go the Camaro myself, but really, you pick sports cars like this with your heart, and since he wants the Stang, get the coming 3.7L, it may well be quite fuel efficient too, in fact I expect it to be.

this.

What a load of rubbish if I ever saw it, "girl version", "boy version", these V6 pony cars are making more power than some V8s did just over 10yrs ago, and they handle extremely well and still have the muscular styling. Maybe you wouldn't call the V6 versions muscle cars, but that doesn't make them bad cars.

Edit: In fact, the new 3.7L V6 coming next year is almost guaranteed to be quicker than the current V8 GT model.

Either wait for the better V6 in the next Mustang, or just pony up the extra for the GT. The performance of the V6 isn't terrible... but it sounds like a hoover. The V8 sounds like a motor. If your dad is buying for the experience of owning a muscle car, sound is a big part of it.

V6 + American sportscar does not = musclecar.

The Camaro is a heavy pig that will not be as fun to drive as the Mustang in any form much less the GT.

Solution, the 05-09 GT 5spd. That's all he needs.

Neither car is a muscle car to begin with so of course they don't = a muscle car.

Mustangs and Camaro's are PONY CARS.

Honestly, I want to like the Camaro because of the DI V6... Other than that I can't. Perhaps I'd looked at it for too long, or it ended up eating too many happy meals on the way from concept to production. maybe I expected more, but it just did not pan out, other than the awesome DI v6.

The Mustang is better IMO, not so much the V6, but the 8. It's not a whole lot more expensive than a six, but the performance is much better. Not leaps and bounds over the new Camaro. But if the '10 Mustang can put comparable, if not better numbers down than an SS Camaro, what's the point? I think the Mustang is a more refined car period, how did they save 500 pounds that the SS could not? Don't want to get started on the interiors...

If it were 4th generation F-body VS Mustang (other than Terminator Cobra/Mach1) I would vote Z28/SS Camaro/WS.6/Formula.

It's not though, so I strongly suggest Mustang, the sixes performance may not equal the Camaros, but I'd wager a bet that it's a better car in it's revised form than the Camaro. Get an 8 Mustang and then it's with out a doubt a better car IMO... '10 and up of course.

Just my opinion, other may vary. A test drive will answer most questions...

And this. Some people have started judging these cars based on an incorrect assumption by the OP.

No, but it does make them secretary's cars.

@ The OP: I would get the Camaro, probably, but the Mustang would be the choice that one should get. And by that I mean the used 5-Speed GT.

Somebody just had to bring it up...

The classic definition of a muscle car is a small car with a big engine.

The Mustang GT is a... well... relatively small car with a honking big engine.

If you want to go by the nitpicker's definition, where muscle exclusively equals midsizers... well.. the Mustang and Camaro can be considered midsized, too, in terms of footprint.

Muscle is muscle is muscle. If it's got a big engine, is relatively cheap, and goes down the quarter mile in a non-embarrassing way, it's muscle.

Honestly... it's almost as bad as the "sportscar" argument...

I believe the difference is that Pony Cars were designed to kinda-sorta handle and Muscle Cars didn't even pretend to make that claim.

The classic definition of a muscle car is a small car with a big engine.

At its most widely accepted definition (according to Wikipedia), the term refers to American 2-door rear wheel drive mid-size cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s equipped with large, powerful V8s and sold at an affordable price for street use and drag racing, formally and informally.

Too bad there's not an exact definition.

Really?? My dad will be so happy when he hears that!!!! My dad isnt taking it on a track. He might do some redlining on the highway and go 120km/h as an average speed (unless if there is a deserted road). A V6 is perfect. Do you know when exactly the new V6 is coming out?

Either of which could apply to the current Mustang, depending on which year model and which suspension tune you get...

Besides... isn't drag-racing the excuse Ford always uses to keep the live-axle? ;)

Spring of 2010 is when production of the 2011 Mustang will start. All sources point to the 3.7L V6 having at minimum 272hp, and the 5.0L DOHC V8 with around 400hp. Already confirmed are 6 speeds across the board, auto and manual.

One of the guys I know just bought a Camaro (senior is high school, working his ass off) V6/RS Auto Yellow/Black rally stripes. While I can't speak of the performance, I can say this. It's exhaust is very quiet, even in higher revs. The interior is not as bad as it's made out to be. I found it very comfortable, and I could live with it on a daily basis without a problem. The visibility it very porthole like, but you could see what you needed to. The exterior is what really struck me. I couldn't stop looking at it. I haven't been that smitten with a car in as long as I can remember. It's 10x better looking than a 2010 Mustang, and has soooo much more presence than any Mustang you'll find this side of 1980

Im at the library reading thr road and track magazine from october 2009 and it says the mustang gt is the best followed by the challenger and then the camaro in that order.

It's utimately your Dads decision. If it was up to me,I would spend the extra money and get into a V-8 model of either one, both are pretty cool.Of course,if I was in the market for a modern day V-8 muscle car,Dodge Challenger R/T would be my choice though.

Between the two, and what's available now, the choice of the Camaro is a no-brainer. The extra power, better suspension, and V8-like performance makes it a solid choice when in LT or LT/RS trim. Furthermore, the fuel economy isn't too bad, and you can grab it with a proper six-speed manual. But, as someone noted, the new V6 is coming soon for the Mustang... And that will likely make things very interesting. A Pony-Pack V6 Mustang is not a bad option, but in its current form, I wouldn't exactly call it comparable to the Camaro on most levels.

Problem is, for about the same price as a nicely equipped LT1/RS Camaro V6, you're only a couple hundred dollars from being able to get a Mustang GT. If we're doing that comparison, the Mustang is the choice to make.
