This race falls under the GTMSA GCR for Online Racing. All standard online rules apply including​

It's been pointed out to me that with the handicap, as posted, there are some issues with the literal calculation of the rounding in Excel.

MaxMax86 has a handicap of 98.48%, while jmgyro has one of exactly 98.5%. But due to rounding and the fact that you cannot adjust HP by fractions of % in GT4, jmgyro is being penalized by 1% for a 0.02% difference in performance.

Therefore, if he elects to still participate, I've decided to adjust jmgyro's handicap to -1% for this week's event.

At the conclusion of this week's race, I'll get some feedback on how the handicap system is working out and will make sure we again come to an agreement before handicaps are finalized and posted.

Correct, so it's still not a perfect system and I'm open and receptive to feedback. Let's start by just seeing how it works this week, whether it tightens things up a bit. 👍

I'll wait until the system is different, there's no guarantees that it will be voted for change and this is just a temporary adjustment due to rounding so it is not really different. I do know it can't be changed for this race since others have started so I'll just elect to sit out for the time being.

I'm not sure what you're railing against here?
When you signed up for the challenge, it was understood HP handicapping would be applied on a race by race basis. Had Green_Flag remained as the series co-ordinator you'd have been running in race 2 alongside Jump_Ace with 0% HP change, but the rest of us would've gained between +1-5%HP. Statistically it would've been less favourable for you to then win race 2, and you'd maybe have gone into race 3 with maybe a 1 or 2% HP increase (which given your GT4 driving record would more or less have guaranteed you a win by a big margin) and you'd be back down to 0% for race 4.

This new system is designed to avoid that yo-yo-ing effect by gradually adjusting the handicaps in small amounts such that a continually quick driver is a little hamstrung and a continually slow driver is sufficiently boosted. It does also give scope for a few outlier times but it means than instead of being suddenly plunged from a large HP penalty to a large HP boost, and therefore being more likely to create another even bigger outlier, the change is much more subtle as it takes into account your average results and thus less likely to create such massive swings. It's not a perfect system, but in the very short time that the organisers had to come up with rules & regulations for this series.

I have already talked to EDK about it in great detail, but to summarize.
I signed up for a yo-yo type system as I wouldn't mind running with a negative advantage from week to week, but with this I don't think I'm going to be running back of the pack times with a -2% handicap, or -1% for that matter, but I really don't have any advantage as this isn't the same racing as hotlaps.

So to say that I get some huge negative handicap if I run 1 outlier quick time and then am losing each race by a slim margin makes me inclined to run a real bad time so I'm not punished for 1 good race, which I don't want to end up doing. I'm not rewarded any more points for a huge time differential, only punished for it, and how am I supposed to know to try and win by only .1? I'm not, it's all just random.

And I didn't lose because of handicaps, I lost straight up and the overall lead yet I'm still marked as having the worst handicap due to winning race 1 by a bigger margin? Sorry, but a win is a win and shouldn't have my time averaged to determine skill, that is just flawed.

I didn't see what was wrong with a yo-yo system as everyone would be yo-yo'ing back and forth from 1st to last would be very mixed up and things would be interesting.

I feel for EDK & RACECAR here as they're trying to do the best thing for everyone, and it's very, very difficult to please all the people all the time.

First they said the handicap was gone, but we said we liked the idea.
Now it's reinstated, albeit a little differently, and we stand to lose a racer because of that.
They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
I guess that's why I'll never make a good politician!

Basically, and I can only speak for myself here, I'm happy to be racing MX-5s regardless of handicaps (although I think it's going to make things more fun!), I love the idea of making it a challenge to try and race cleanly with the AI which to my mind it makes a great change to running hotlaps against my own ghost.

Anyway, I got to get me a time for this week's race before tomorrow, so I'm off to drive a bit!

*EDIT* Finished 1 race cleanly, only 3 touches from AI, but I forgot to clarify whether the green bit behind the rumblies in several places are considered legal or not? If they are, I'm OK. If not, I'm going to ask that I receive a 1pt DNF for the week. See Y'all when I'm back from "Nawlins"!

Fun race. In my most recent run, I was constantly battling a Z4 for 2nd place. I was quicker through the turns, but he'd just keep catching up and passing me on the home stretch and coming out of Spoon. But I beat him in the end - still far behind a Skyline sedan - and I think I got a really good time out of it as well. I'll see if I can top it before submitting though.

*EDIT* Finished 1 race cleanly, only 3 touches from AI, but I forgot to clarify whether the green bit behind the rumblies in several places are considered legal or not? If they are, I'm OK.

Since we did not define this up front and most drivers are presumably racing already, we'll need to allow the green portions of the rumble strips (Most notably found in the second turn of Degner and in the Casio triangle) as part of the track.

OK - It took me too long, but I finally managed a clean run.

I ended up setting the difficulty to 8 and finished in 2nd, about 8 seconds behind a Ford RS 200. The AI lineup overall was -

The AI lineup was spread nicely, just quick enough to not impede my progress, and I was able to pass all 4 cars on the first lap. My last pass was by the Lexus SC 430, going into Casio.

I ran in clean air for the rest of the race, so laps 3-7 (Once the tires were warmed up) were basically like hotlapping. My T1's were all in the high 1:06's, while my T2's were all in the high 2:04's on those laps.

My fastest lap was #5, with the following splits -
1:06.772
2:04.611

I only had one AI touch, I barely tapped the back of the SC 430 exiting Spoon on Lap 1.

Submitting my time to myself and RACECAR now, so when those who have submitted see that I've read their PM's, that's the reason. 👍

Whoops almost forgot to submit my times for this one!

I did the race a few days ago so I can't remember much about it, but I did save the replay, a few photos of screen prints and a few images from the race. The one below nicely shows my competitors, which in contrast to the "10" difficulty of the last race I set on 7 for this one. My plan was to get past them all and have a clear run for the whole race - it didn't work. The HCD6 left me for dead, and I spent the whole race battling with the S2000 which got in my way loads.

Right at the lauch on the straith, the Lexus rammend my left door.
2nd I tapped slightly the FOCUS's rear bumper before "S curve"
At lap 1 coming out of the "Dunlop curve" I had alredy passed all the 4 other cars,

Finally got a somewhat clean run... I also went for the +8 set up but I got a Solticce in my line up. On lap #4 a Lexus caught up to me and was battling for position and kicked me out onto the grass a couple of times
I finally let him go but then the soltice tried the same thing. On the final straight before the sweeping left hander,he tapped me from behind and trying to keep inside the track and not hit the wall I tapped the Soltice on my left and was forced to pit at the end of lap #7 ended on 3rd place.
Whish I had more time to clean but im off to son's soccer game!!!!

I'm not sure that I'll be at the very top in the results, but I'm NTSC like you are and would be happy to post my replay in .max format. 👍

Between WRS events on GT4 and then online and other various events on GT5P, I've just plain run a lot of laps at Suzuka.

And that's really the main thing it takes to be good here. Understand the plan of attack for each section and implement it. And it varies in every car. In a case such as this, with tire wear and AI involved, you drive the car differently as the race goes on.

Anyhow, 8 hours and 20 minutes until deadline, I'll shoot a reminder PM to anyone who I think might have forgotten to submit. 👍

Had only 2 AI contacts.

Par for the course I think, I seem to remember 2 contacts too - once into turn one when the S2000 braked in the particularly violent way that AI cars do and I knocked into his door, which certainly cost me more time than it cost him as I was on the brakes down to about 30mph! The other time, I recall, was into the hairpin when again their hard braking almost caught me out and I nudged into the back of someone, but again it didn't gain me anything.

It's actually quite hard to pass at Suzuka.

Times submitted. I actually could do something with this race. I made up alot of time through the esses and got four positions, but the fast sections were where I was getting killed when I caught the leader (which was an Infiniti). 130R was great for me though as I got off the throttle and was able to make up able a car lenth and got right on him. After about two laps, I finally was close enough on the infiniti to get it through the esses and then it was Talledega with turns from that point.
