My alternative route ...

I pieced this together from Mapquest images, obviously. It didn't take too much time but the result is kind of neat. Using I-40 I-30 it usually takes about 35 minutes to get to work. With nearly the entire stretch under construction it has taken nearly 2 hours lately. So on the way home I've gone the other route a few times to see what it's like. HW 10 to State 113 to State 300 to HW 60. It takes about 1:15 and it's much prettier and definitely more fun!! I'm still looking for better runs, but so far this is working quite nicely.

Text edited to answer why I like this drive rather than a few alternative suggestions. Winding roads gentlemen. We like curves, don't we? In our women and in our roads.

I never knew GTP was filled with so many pre pubescent english teachers! Way to go everyone.

Your corrections of everyones spelling is so passe.

Now back on topic.

Um, what is the topic?

It's passé, by the way...

There needs to be a set of sarcasm tags that do something besides look stupid.

Alt+130=é. Much like Alt+225=ß. Like the ß in Sheißa.

That's a *hold down alt and type in the number on the number pad* for anyone who want's to know.

Loudmusic's map is fantastical. That must have taken some serious initiative to collect, and match together, all of those maps. I really don't understand what the point was, but I respect it nonetheless.

Which parts of 30/40 are under construction? If it's north, it seems like you could take AR-286 to AR-89, then hop on at 135 - if that doesn't work, you could take AR-89 west to AR-365 and get on at 142. Even if you wanted to avoid the interstate altogether, you could take AR-365 all the way into North Little Rock then over the Main St Bridge near to your location. If the southern part of the highway were under construction, you could always get off at 135 or 142 and follow state highways the rest of the way. The green route looks scenic, but it does seem to be a bit of a waste.

You could always get a boat and ride up and down the river - no real traffic there, and I'm the only one person ever to have gotten a speeding ticket in a boat on a US river. Doesn't look like you're too far from the bank of the river, either - completely do-able!

You buy an european keyboard. There are keys specially for those accents. éèêë! :D

I like the ingenuity in putting those maps together, very well done. The green route looks like it's mostly on country roads, which is much more fun than the highway.

Thank you for being one of THE most intelligent people on GTPlanet. I really do appreciate it.

Yes, the additional routes you have mentioned work quite well, though everyone else that is avoiding construction (litterally) from Conway to Little Rock take those routes and they get quite conjested. They're also not as pretty (:

The river - my girlfriend said the same thing! I am 7 miles from the river in Conway (my driveway to the boat launch) and the river is closer to my building than my parking garage is. Funny stuff.

They're obviously not as pretty - and plus, you can't go through Little Italy, which seems vaguely appealing - but they seem as if, even with the construction-avoiders, they'd be quicker. Since it takes two hours with construction on 30/40, it probably means most people aren't taking alternate routes, and on the route I mentioned you can probably beat 1h 15m (though maybe not - it isn't too much longer than 30/40 but it does seem like the obvious alternate route choice. Even if most people aren't doing it, it'll probably be slow).

I bet Little Italy residents aren't too excited about all the new traffic. :D

Rent a boat! If you can, rent one of those fan boats! They're cool, but a little loud, and a little wet. 👍

Little Italy Population: 17 people, 6 dogs and 3 cows

There are fewer stops, actually only two, on my route and it is virtually deserted. The other route does take on quite a lot of other commuters, and it has lots of four-way intersections with lights or stop signs. Between the interstate and the next closest path they take about the same amount of time with lots of sitting still.

I think it's more about maintaining motion rather than taking less time, up to a point. I mean, I wouldn't want to be on the road for three hours.

Ah - very little Italy, eh?

On your new route, is it full of fun, seemingly illegal passing opportunities? Seems so - and in that case I'm all for it. Kudos to you for figuring it out; it's clearly not the obvious route choice!

I do hate construction on city interstates - regular commuters just get slowed down, and tourists don't give a damn because they'll never be back. But it seems to be here to stay.

Two questions:

Any Italians in Little Italy?

Do you really drive through a town called Toad Suck?
