Over ten years since our first CD was recorded in August of '99, we will be tracking with our new drummer tomorrow, well this morning.

We have about 30 new originals that we are going to try and get the drums layed down to give us some material to layer the rest of the music on.

Wish us luck, more details to come.

Congrats!

I still have Blue Jeans Saddlebags floating around on one of my CDs in the car. Keep us posted, and if you need a few people to listen to some pre-release music... ;)

Very cool, Pako!

If you don't mind me asking, why such a long time between albums?

and if you need a few people to listen to some pre-release music... ;)

So the onions haven't turned brown yet then? :p

Just a FAIL joke. Good luck to all of you, be sure to keep us updated on the progress 👍

4 songs into it so far and its going great. More updates to follow.

Good luck Pako.

Got any U-Tube music videos you can show us ?

Sorry, no videos. Have to see us live. :)

Looks like we'll have drums tracked for the first 10 songs and it sounds pretty good so far. 👍

Congrats!

Yes, we might just need some constructive criticism before the CD get's pressed. :)

Well, we had a studio album in 1999 shortly after I joined up with the guys. We then had a live recorded cd "Live At The Garden" that contained mostly newer tunes. Since 1999 and now, we have had several drummers, and now have a drummer that's solid enough that going into the studio and put forth the effort seems like a good idea. We have close to 30 new originals and plan to track as many as possible as our drummer might be moving to California at the end of June. I'm having a blast playing with him, he's a top drummer and seems to have fun and lock in nicely with what we do. It will be unfortunate to see him go but we wish him the best. Things might not work either and he'll be stuck with us. Either way, we will squeeze a CD or two out of him in the next week or so..... :D

Alright, here's just a rough sample into to one of the songs. Pre-mix, pre-mastering. Drums and Bass are the only keeper tracks here. The guitar track that you are hearing will be deleted and replaced with a retake that will be a mic'ed amp instead of a line-6 direct signal to soften the tone and to get rid of the digital bite that you are hearing here. There is no eq on any of the instruments at this point and is basically a dry mix.

This project is fun and has a whole range of different styles but all of the songs will have their blues roots.

Sounds great Pako. The drummer sounds very solid.

Sounds good! Have fun with your new project. 👍

Thanks! We're having a blast. There's good energy and a good vibe in the studio. We're all getting along and have our eyes on the same goal. One of the challenges we had was using a click track. It's working great for the drummer as he practices with a metrinome, but our guitarist plays by feel digging deep in his blues roots and sometimes pulls the drummer or at least distracts the drummer with his scratch track but he's getting better at it and I think we we'll contine using the click. It makes it really nice for me to come in and lay my bass line down to a solid 120bbm 4/4, time, for example, without deviation to the tempo. Some of the tunes have a open time signature in parts where we start with the click but I end up having to mute it part way through the song. I think it's working good and should have a nice product when we're done. Now if we can only get the engineer (me) to turn his bass down in the mix. :D

Damnit, the link's not working for me:nervous:

Pako, what kind of bass lines are you using? Some typical blues things, or do you thrown in some slappin and poppin' as well? :D

That's too bad. Try a right click, "Save target as....." It's a wav file and might not stream for you.

This sample is more of fast swing walking bass line. There are some songs that are strictly slap, while others just have some accent slap parts with finger style the rest of the song. Song styles range from funk, to slow blues, delta blues, blues rock, with a little onion mixed in all of it. :)

👍 Looking forward to hearing the finished product!

Thanks guys! I look forward to the finished product to. Can't wait to add a real guitar track and vocals and start mixing this project. Hopefully by the end of the week we will have a good chunk of the rest of the songs recorded. Basically having a third of the drums tracked in one day, I'm hopeful we will get through all the songs we wanted to record.

Trying to save the file didn't help either Pako :nervous: Firefox gives me a message that it cannot read the source file, hence why I couldn't save it.

Finally managed to listen to it, and I must say, it sounds very, very promising! The bass line really sets a good root for the guitar to kick in, and the drummer does some nice stuff in between as well 👍

A big 👍 to all three of you, I can't wait to hear the final result

:D Thanks man. Not bad for a 42 sec clip, eh?

I have the guys coming back in the studio tonight for another session. Hoping it's as productive as last Saturday.

Sounding good Pako. 👍

I like it. :D

Well, tonight wasn't as productive as I had hope but we got 4 more tracked for a total of 14 songs so far. In looking at the list, we have another 17 to go of getting the drums down before we start with guitar and vocals. I'll get my bass lines inbetween sessions.
