Ok, it's official. I hate water.

Asl some people know right now, there is a massive rainstorm going through my state (Maine) and with that, you combine a massive snowpack (5 feet) and you get hideous flooding. Of course it hit us and hit us good.

So I was upstairs in at the computer, and my mom calls from the basement saying "Is the steam cleaner up there?" I went ahead and got it, I came downstairs little knowing that my basement was a freaking lake. Of course, being the panicky guy I am, I sort of lost my cool. Apparently what had happened was that the basement drainage system couldn't keep up with the water, and with the combonation of the extememly saturated ground around the house, the water started seeping through many areas of the basement. But it was the worst around the drainage area, of course. But anyway, after I fretted for 5 minutes, I grabbed a dustpan, and started scooping up water into a 5 gallon bucket while my dad went to get a utility pump. He did return with it, but the problem was that it couldnt keep up with the water. and it would constantly mess up. At 9:30, 3 hours later, I thought it was under control. so I went upstairs again. 1 hour later it was back to the way it was in the beginning, if not worse. So I said "Eff this, I'm calling a plummer" It took him about 45 minutes to get to the house, but he did arrive. He installed a better drainage pump. Even though that pump was installed we still had to get the remaining water out. Me and my brother were up until 2:30 cleaining, we finally called it a night after that.

It's holding up right now, but the thing that made it worse was that it was $450 form the guy to come after hours and install the pump.

I live in NJ, we got like 6-7 inches of rain over the past 3 days too. No water in my house, but the rest of my town is flooded, schools are closed and everythings a mess

Then go away please - I'm sure you'll be a valued member..... Then again..

Adam - I know how that sucks - Each and every bloody fall back in the days when I lived with my parents (20 odd years ago perhaps) - at some time or other during we'd have anywhere from 25 to 75 cms of water in the basement... - But hey, look at the bright side - It sure beats sailing your RC boat in the bathtub ;)

Nasty! We had that happen to us, but it was our garden, and it was treated sewage!

Sorry to hear the news, but thanks to you Flerbizky I now got an idea!

*runs downstairs with a hose.

Interesting this was posted, because the toilet overflowed yesterday… and no, not just a little over the edge, but it completely saturated the carpet and rushed into two other rooms. We had to pull out the carpeting and it's sitting outside right now.

We have no clue. The other toilet had been clogging up about every other day for the past couple weeks, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Oh, and, a tile fell off of our roof and crashed into the Subaru this morning. :grumpy: Things are just breaking here.

^Around here basements get water in them so often they install sump-pumps when the house is built. If they pump long enough the motor burns out and you have to buy a new motor. Luckily, in our new house, built 5 years ago, we haven't had any water get into our basement, but our old house used to get a little bit of water in the basement sometimes.

Do you have those red clay roofing tiles that look corrugated?
