Hey everyone, my brother is looking for a new car, Car price up to 26,000 USD. So far my father and him decided either Subaru Legacy 3.6R or Impreza. He also wanted buy buy a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, but now he says it will be useless and does not deed a truck. He wants something bit sporty and reliable, don't have to be too fast.

So what are other choices for NEW car, yes not used, new, up to 26k USD. Any cool SUV? Another sporty sedan? Mustang GT! :D well nehh maybe not that choice lol. But give some ideas guys thanks.

Also NO FWD cars! Either RWD or AWD.

2.0t Track/R-type. Meets the criteria you've laid before us with ease, with every single option (other than the 3.8) selected.

All that remains is if you wanna put up with a Hyundai interior.

Ahh nice choice, I was showing my bro that one as well, but he would love the 4 door as well but the price too high. Hyundai interior? who cares, as long it keeps me worm or cold and sitting comfortably, that all it matters ;)
That car is one of the best bangs for the money for sporty Coupe sports cars.

What about the Tacoma X-Runner? It comes in under 26 grand, has the pickup bed (in case he ever still needs it) and has a sporty suspension along with RWD.

I also had the same thought. speaking of buying cars, I think I accidentally bought a 3.8 track. I don't think I can afford it at the moment.

Im browsing, but not many choices for RWD or AWD cars! Too many damn FFDrive cars!
Today we are going to the Subaru Dealer, allong the way they have many dealerships there, Ford, Audi, Porsche, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Lets see what caches his eyes.

And that Toyota X-Runner, nehh he does not like it, Especially if you wanna buy a RWD TRUCK and it snows, they are worst. Altho we did see a 2008 New TRD 4X4 Double cab for 26 or was it 27k, worth it?

The X Runner looks pretty sweet tho!

Surprisingly, there are quite a few here (and we get 300+ inches of snow in a season not to mention it's a hilly area!) All you need are good snow tires and a few bags of sand/salt.

Definitely are a bunch of those here too! As far as I know they are great cars. Insurance may be a bit high though.

What exactly is wrong with FWD cars? Their use in traffic & what not isn't exactly any different from other cars.

Subaru actualy seems like a good choice. What are you looking for?

Yeah we both agree today SUBI WRX is best choice.. He is 25 now so he needs something better, sportier, realible, AWD and 5 door car.
What am I looking for? He will take my car, and trade it in at the dealer, my car is a M-B 1995 C280 with 130k miles on it. I will take his car in return a M-B 1993 E300 (3.2) with 75k miles on it, Im not gonna complain :D

@ McLaren
About FWD cars, Too much pressure form braking and accelerating for front tires, they are not fun with over 220HP I know there are some FWD cars with lots of power and fun to drive but... Sure might be safer in rain over RWD car, but its still a FWD car. We just dont like em ;)

And this is going to bother you through normal driving how? It's not like my TL is going through tires or anything faster than my 5.

But what? What FWD cars have you driven to begin with to base such a conclusion?

I think it's more that you're both just 2 of those people who just have no actual reasons for your dislike....

Your search needs more details anyways. Lots of cars are reliable, there are a lot of sport sedans, & we have no idea what you think is cool; all for under $26,000....

We just dont like FWD cars, what is there not to get? I do not need to write a book on it ;)

I had driven From Toyota Corolla, to Nissan to Acura as well, I just don't like the setups, that's all.

Besides if it snows, AWD setup is always best.

Except you don't post any valid reason. The only area they hurt in is performance, an area most people don't even touch so the drivetrain shouldn't even matter. But whatever. Continue to have that "FWD sucks" attitude.

He has to?
I asked him why out of curiosity, and he just gave me a bunch of worn out reasons. I don't need to carry on the discussion any further, either. I already have my conclusion as to the kind of person he & his brother are when it comes to layouts.

Whats wrong with not wanting FWD cars? I or we do not need reasons.. Don't get too serious man.

Also you have conclusions on a kind of person me and my bro are when it comes to layout? Hmm do I have a label on my forehead? I just dont like FWD cars, thats all, stop judging people!

There's nothing wrong until you give asinine reasons when asked why. You do not need a label, either. Just by reading your previous posts & the words you use, I got the message that you share the same attitude as drifters when it comes to FWD.

That's fine, though.

Readings something can leave you with your own though, if I was there face to face with ya, you would off seen me in a good attitude, because I was not being mad and biased about FWD cars, i just don't wanna buy one, neater does my bro.

And again, thanks for the advice :)

Well... then you probably don't want AWD cars, either... unless you're getting an STi or EVO with the tricky diffs, an AWD car will drive much the same as a FWD car... understeer under power, understeer under power, understeer under power... lift-off to get it to rotate. Even better... for cars with under 250 hp, AWD saps a palpable amount of "urge" out of the proceedings.

For 26k, just go with the Genesis, and be done with it. That's a lot of car for your money...

I think he will decide the WRX, 265 HP I think. Besides I don't think that car under steers as much as a FWD car. I was watching all the reviews, all reviews gives it a thumbs up. They say good and reliable soft car when driving soft, and its pretty hardcore if you wanna go down to a track with it. When winter comes it drives super nicely because computer takes care of all the traction controls, I do not think FWD car handle as good in snow.. or even rain.

But we will also test drive the Hyundai, But he does not want the weak 2.0T rather something more powerful, but we will check it out.

I've driven FWD, RWD and AWD in mud and on gravel... and on rallycross. Some people campaign FWDs very successfully in rallycross and hillclimbs against competitors in EVOs and STis. The only advantage of AWD against FWD is you can accelerate faster. That's all. There's more of a chance of getting stuck in knee deep mud in a FWD car, yes, but then... would you actually want to drive in knee deep mud with a new car? In snow, tires will make more of a difference... so save up for good winter tires.

The WRX's steering is crud, the new body is heavy, and there's a lot of roly-poly in the suspension... but it's still a fun car... and that soft suspension helps eat up miles and miles in great comfort. I think it's a swell car, overall, and I'd agree with this purchase. 👍

Don't discount the Genesis. It's weak on paper, but a few simple ones will make it feel much more fun.

2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup (Street Edition)

prnphotos086783-volkswagen-of-ameri_opt.jpg

Although it keeps the same 140 BHP diesel powerplant from the current MKV Jetta, it pretty much gets a carryover GLI suspension setup plus a fancy DSG gearbox to add to the sport factor. They go on sale in January for about $25K, fitting the price requirements, keeping the sport and reliability factors on high, and totally maximizes fuel economy (as I recall 40 + MPG on the highway, 30+ in the city).

The only thing better would be the MKVI Golf TDI that will be here shortly...

That might just be one car I'll have to look at for myself then. 💡

TDI look cool

So anyways, my bro now wants a 2006-2007 Volvo S60R 6 speed automatic
There are 4 of them in our area with 30-40k miles in low $20s
now he wants something more ADULT then childish. Well for me I would agree, they look sweet . Anyone has one? any opinion?

The Volvo isn't a bad car... I'm not certain of the overall reliability and cost to operate. All of which I imagine are quite high, or not all that good.

If he wants an "adult" car, his choices are essentially regulated to the most-adult of brands:

- Volkswagen/Audi
- Subaru (non-STi models)
- Volvo
- Saab
