Jeez, i'm sick of people saying rotarys are unreliable, i know how to take care of the car, they only got a bad name because the common public and mechanics didn't. and they treated them like piston motors.
anyways, the turbos not running alot of boost, the engine would've been dowelled, and series 4 housings i'm guessing, probably rebuilt as well.
and even if the engine goes, i know how to rebuild it, plus it's cheap as chips compared to a piston :)

Speaking on working on your engine, aren't you a little worried about reliability thanks to all that boost from your milk jug sized turbo?
If the turbo in my avatar was mine, I would be worried. I think the frame of my 2200lb car would be worried also.

Who said the Rotary was unreliable? For someone who didn't know the most well known rotary tuner in the world up until today, you claim to know a lot. The fact is it doesn't matter what housings or rotors or seals or ems you use, the motor is going to pop sooner or later.

Sure you can rebuild it, and sure it might be cheaper than rebuilding a piston motor. But that depends on how much damage the housings/rotors/turbos sustained, if they are reusable, and how much attention you pay to the clearences. I have seen professionaly built rotarys last 50 miles, and I have seen factory built motors last over 100,000.

For the record you don't have to run a lot of boost to kill a motor. I'm not a know it all, just a been there done that type. Good luck with the car. It looks like it has a lot of potential.

I read somewhere about a anti-detonation device for the rotary engine. peoples with the device have boosted with 89 oct. and have seen no problems it's like magic. maybe that might help professionaly built rotarys to last more than 50 miles.

1. Turning off the trailing plugs under boost (which is what the anti-det does) has nothing to do with your nice new $5,000 motor taking a dump on the dyno. These motors do weird things sometimes.

2. If you're using 89 octane in a turbocharged car, not to mention a turbo rotary, you deserve a blown up motor. And in time you/they will be rewarded with one.

3. "Magic" is for kids and old people who don't know their own name.

All I can say is: buy a good wideband kit, a good EGT gauge, and the highest octane you can afford. If that's 89oct - sell your car.

I almost always use 98 octane, 96 if 98's not convenient at the time.

the higest octane we have here in california is 91 :dopey: 👎

I havent been trolling on rx7forums for quite some time but I do remember the anti-detonation device by KDR? i'm no expert but wouldnt you agree most of the time why the rotary craps out is because of detonation?

91oct? Don't you have Sunoco stations where you live?

I have been out of the rotary game for a long time, I have no idea who builds/sells anti-dets. I would agree with detonation being the #1 killer, but detonation can happen a number of ways.

The old school mercedes are probably just there because it was bought at auction, and by a supplier who buys lots of cars for lots of people, i guess people want mercedes too. i would.

All these anti det devices you're talking about, i don't think we have to worry in australia, i mean, you use the highest possible RON fuel for turbo cars, and luckily we have pretty high standards, not as high as the Japanese but still high, either i use that or tune it for lower RON, easy.

Monster7- yeah sunoco, heard about it but never seen one around here. I bet most of them are down south but 91 is good enuff I don't drive a car with a turbocharger anyways.

Well anyways, i just got a replacement bonnet for passing rego, nice matt black turbo II aus spec one, with bonnet scoop, should look good on the blaze red car.
