yeah...as of now, my car is on, and the keys to the ignition are right here, it will not turn off, the ignition thing is broke, and when i turn the key, it is very loose...(in the process of having AAA coming over)

any tips?

It'll eventually run out of gas.

Think of it as a really ghetto remote start for the time being :).

...i just filled it up with gas, it's gonna take a while (12 gallon tank to a ford taurus 1995, 3.0 liter SOHC)

Dude .. your car has character now!

How many other people have cars that won't shut off?

People with ghetto improperly installed turbo timers... :dunce:

Well if you just want to stop the engine, As long as it safe to go diging around the airbox, disconnect the big plasic plumbing and cover the hole with your hand. That will snuff it out in about 5 seconds. Then disconnect your battery too because with the ignition on "run" your fuel pump and stuff are still drawing juice.

[EDIT]
Pulling the cables with it running wont stop the engine. It will still run off the alternator.

I knew a guy who bought a street car he didn't have keys for, drove it for 4 years, and sold it to a guy without the keys. The secret was to never turn the key back to "Lock" because then you'd be SOL.

If you open the hood and pull the positive battery cable, it will stop running.

Good luck!

I wouldn't guess that opening the hood of a running vehicle and disconnecting one of the battery cables is the safest thing on the planet.

it's perfetly harmless unless you touch them both at the same time. But like i said, that wont stop the engine anyway.

yeah...thank God for AAA

And actually, you can put your hands on both of them at the same time while the car is running and it will be harmless. 12vDC/30a is not enough to harm you. If you get a wrench across the terminals it wil spark like hell, but it won't shock you.

Disconnecting the positive cable will kill my old Pontiac, anyway, because I've done it.

Thats odd. Every car I've ever worked on would Idle perfectly fine with the battery even completely out of it. Carburated and fuel injected alike, although I've heard rumors it's not good for the CPU of a fuel injected car to run on the alternator alone. (something along the lines of "unstable current" having to do with fluctuations in the engine rpm.) What might that "old pontiac" be Duke, if you dont mind my asking.

[EDIT]
I do belive i just hijacked this thread. Sorry

#17 did you get it worked out ok? Did they get there? Gas being expensive and all.

it has officially been towed to my familys favorite car worker place type...place...

but i miss my upgraded sound system :( i guess ol FM radio on my dads car will have to suffice...(only a tape player in it)

Forgot to do the obvious joke here.

any tips?

Yes, one in particular. It has to do with you purchasing a new automobile.

MAH! im driving that car into the ground...or at least when i move out

How about hammer the engine!(seriously don't do it)

This crazy dominican guy I work with has a van that doesn't need keys. You just turn the ignition without keys and it starts. Pretty neat.

Have you ever considered that it's stolen?
