This is my homebuilt cockpit , well kind of. Up until recently I worked in an engineering shop so I was lucky enough to have both access to all the required equipment and also a good boss that let me use it on weekends. The body is made from 3mm Aluminium to keep the weight down as I need to move the unit from the living room occasionally. 2 wheels were fitted at the rear so by lifting it from the front , it can be rolled around fairly easily.

I originally designed a cockpit made from 2" alum pipe but we didn't have a pipe bender and to send it away for bending would have been an extra expense that I didn't need. The sheet metal doesn't look as good as the round pipe would have but it was relatively quick and easy for me to fabricate.

Components:
Thrustmaster T500RS wheel and pedals.
Sharkoon Xtatic headset.
Logitech wirelesss keyboard.

The small fan is fantastic in summer , it only provides a small breeze but when going down a straight you can take a hand off the wheel and freshen it up by holding in front of the fan. Nice ! I also have another fan in the cabinet behind the PS3 to keep operating temps down in summer.

The seat was sourced on the net. You know , Google "race seat" and follow your nose to the best deal :)

Hide that messy tangle of wiring ! 💡

The "carbon fibre" vinyl was found on ebay. Fairly cheap and it made a big difference to the look of the unit. A big aluminium box in the living room wasn't the most awesome look to be honest and the top face where the keyboard sits was getting quite scratched up. Looks much nicer now I think.

Thanks for looking :)

I have only had the headset for a week (and it is the first decent gaming headset I have owned so with that taken into consideration) , the sound quality is really good , they are very comfortable but get a bit warm on the ears. It has been very hot here the past week and even with the AC on , I have been taking the headset off between races. They will be great in winter I think ! For the money , they are great IMO.

Thanks mate ! I thought about getting the shifter , it would certainly complete the rig but I'm happy using the paddles and I'm not the fastest guy out there as it is. Taking a hand off to shift would be cool but I reckon would be a hindrance. Great for fun driving but not racing.

PS: Checked out your rig , very nice mate !

Thanks all for the comments :)

Hey hey Spinner! Love the cockpit now mate!!!:dopey:👍
I gotta say that carbon Fibre vinyl looks trick!
Your job of tidying up the wiring is excellent!
Your headset inline controller and decoding box is very nearly identical to mine,
and fan looks like it was suppose to be there all along haha!👍
All things considered, your cockpit looks finished, neat and tidy, comfortable and unique!
Great work mate,;)
Rusty

Loving the balls fan.

Yes , well when I'm not refreshing the hands , that's where it's pointed :cool:

I think we have the same headset but branded differently. How about that !

Cheers mate, that fan picture caught my eyes, that 2.8 lens is awesome 👍👍

It's a beautiful lens , pricey but always gives great results.

Thanks all for the comments 👍

Update: I recently built a gaming PC for Pcars and iRacing so decided to integrate the new hardware with the existing PS3 and cockpit and get it all relocated into a corner of the loungeroom. Much tidier , everything within easy reach and I am no longer walking around the rig which was taking over the room along with the associated cables etc.

I really like this, I think I would prefer this over a tubular design. The testicle fan is a great idea, no more BSTL! :)

EDIT: I see you added CARpet as well, always a nice touch that seems to usually be overlooked :D

Thanks Hwangm , gotta say I love your cockpit too mate !

Gordie: Its all about comfort haha. The carpet is great in winter , I take it out in summer so I can cool my feet on the bare aluminium floor between races. It's a bit chilly for the fan this time of year :D

Awesome cockpit! I wish/hope that one day I can own/make one as clean as some of the ones I have seen floating around, some people have a REAL CLEAN setup. Cheers!

Nice setup mate, awesome job.

So wish i could build myself a rig but don't have the room (wife permission) so make do with a wheel stand.

Nice setup. New tv or why the stickers?
You spotted that detail ? haha :) That just my iracing member number , I can never remember it when updating paint jobs so I made a label and put it right in front of my eyes. :dunce:

Sharkoon x-tatics... love em.

I am about to order a free replacement pair under warranty ;)

Oh , what happened to yours ? I'm very happy with mine , although they do get a bit warm in summer.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's not the most awesome rig out there but it's been in constant evolution for almost 2 years now and I really enjoy tweaking and making improvements to it. (as I'm sure we all do) It's almost like having a project car in the shed but a LOT cheaper :)
