Bit of an update, the car's been with me and my dad for 4-5 days now. Some detail photos, not the best, sorry

Anyway, I went fishing through the boot and I found something cool

The box for the Turbo Timer/Boost Controller. Inside it I found...

Instruction manuals for the aforementioned Turbo Timer/Boost Controller and the Boost Gauge, which we now know is also made by GReddy/Trust too.

What interested me most though was this...

It appears that there is an aftermarket HKS F-Con SZ ECU installed as well, pretty cool. It seems some serious money has been spent on this car in Japan. Anyway, me and my dad plan to get the wheels refurbished soon, maybe a new colour, any suggestions? We were thinking dark grey/black more likely. But we're open to suggestions. Also, not white.

Coming up soon (Hopefully):

- New headunit/speakers
- Wheels refurbed/repainted
- Repaint calipers

Any mods anyone can recommend? Or simple stuff to check/maintain etc?

Oh and a shout out to any Pistonheads members on here! :D

HKS F-CON is a awesome ECU but the problem is HKS is quite protective of it and because of this not many tuners outside of Japan tune them, not sure if it is as much of a problem in the UK as it is here in the Australia though (and we do have a ton of imports and tuners).

If I were your Dad I would take it to a shop and have the tune checked (atleast check lamba and even connect a external knock sensor if they cant access the F-CON's data) because you really don't know how the ECU has been tuned especially if it hasn't been returned from the Japanese fuels. Probably wont be a problem and it is nice to see what power it put out after now it has a mild tune. If you do hear any pinging/knocking when you (your father) puts his foot down then have it checked straight away.

Lucky sob. My dad Bought a ratted pos 85 supra(n/a auto at that) during his midlife and i never even got to sit in it. I did however break into it to move it out of the way of my shed so i could get my mini four-wheeler out lol. ahhhh 90cc's of pure fun. And no windows, doors or the like was harmed during the break in.

I'm pretty sure that the SZ is a pre tuned piggy back ECU that's basically plug and play, and the V is the proper full blown one.

Looks like the cars pretty much got everything basic done to it. Score!

EVO V, VI, VII and the first three are very common here, but even though i'm a Skylineoholic i still like them. Some real tidy V/VI's around this city, and the VII, VIII and IX all look awesome with big wheels and sacked (quite a few of them here are).

My fiance's sister had a red EVO IV for a while and they have a fair bit of up and go from factory. The clutch is still the heaviest clutch i've ever used - was awesome.

Does your Dad plan on doing anything to it or leaving it factory?

@slidesquad#1 - Looks like we got lucky with all that stuff then, saved us a fair amount of £££!

@SkylineObsession - We'll be doing bits here and there, but I don't think we'll ever be doing anything major to it, at the moment we're after some new speakers and a headunit

Just bought these:

Yeah, every car needs an exclamation mark in a speech bubble.

Oh, and benzo, good to see you're doing the important things first...
[/sarcasm]

How's it not important? My dad drives this car quite a lot, he enjoys a decent sound system, the standard sound system is dreadful. It's already had most basic modifications done anyway. I'd say the new speakers are £30 well spent actually

That's all standard is it? I don't know if a Japanese radio will work here, but that looks like an upgraded one already.

I just find it strange that you've bought a however many years old (R will make it '98ish, so ~12 years old) Japanese import and the first thing you do is to get a new sound system. I'd be looking at any mechanical issues first and, at that age, it's bound to have some.

The TV has nothing to do with the sound system. The headunit doesn't have much, if any effect of the sound quality, even if it does, it's still very poor.

The car seems fine mechanically, bearing in mind Japan's MOT equivalent is a lot stricter than ours, and I'm sure the cars get checked over at least once or twice while being sold and exported, not to mention another check over at the dealership here, and me and my dad also gave it a once over. It's also going to be booked in for an inspection soon
