Lately my PS3's connection has gotten pretty slow. At first I though it was my sis hogging up all the bandwidth with her Mac, but now shes gone and I'm still having problems. I did a connection test with the PS3, at its best it gets 1.1MB(it teeters between 1MB to 8-something kb). I could have sworn, at one point, I was getting about 2.3MB, suddenly, not any more.

I've done some searching on the web and I tried to use a wired connection but its about the same speed. I have know idea how to check to see of I have the latest firm wear for my router? Do I need to contact my ISP? please help.

*EDIT* I just did a broadband test with one of those sites and it says the PC is only 744kbps, so I guess its not just the PS3. Why is my connection so slow? Why would it magically drop?

Is it possible someone else is using your connection? For instance, a neighbor?

Could possibly just need a reset of the modem (Whenever my ISP tends to go down it means that it dropped off somewhere and its not picking it back up) So I just reset and everything is fine.

You know, I thought about that but, you would need the ssid password to connect, and its only written on the router its self, so, realistically I don't think thats possible.

Could be many things but odds are it is your ISP. They could be working on the system or there could be something interfering with the single. Best to call them and at least find out what the speed should be. I have charter with around 20MB speeds most of the time but it drops to 2 or 3 MB at times and they say it's due to service being done in the area. Also splitters can really lower the speed. I upgraded from the cheap splitters to the high quality and it made a huge difference. That is is if it from cable. If it is a wireless internet provider then it will probably never be stable.

Well, on top of finding out there was an old desktop left on in the house and resetting the modem like TJ13 said, it has now jumped back up to 2.06Mb, so I think we're good.

Thanks a lot guys.
