I know of other threads on this but here is my experience here.

I used to always go with the MX5 1.8i (LS in NTSC version). I knew that with 1 or 2 pitstops I would lap the whole field.

I needed the VR Limited A prize car so needed to do this race recently.

I did it in a 1.8i, pitted once on lap 22 and lapped the field.

I then decided to make it a challenge (or so I thought). I tried the 1.8RS. It was a challenge for the first 6 laps. I could not catch and pass much of the field. But still lapped all but the AI 1.8i car. Missed lapping him by about 10 secs.

Then I went to the MX5 1993 model thinking I was increasing the challenge. Later I found the power weight ratio and that explained a lot. I lapped the whole field.

So I then went for the MX5 1989 model. Thinking this was an even bigger challenge. Guess what I crossed the finish line as the AI 1.8i was leaving the pits. I can't say I lapped him but close.

On this attempt the VRA came up. It gave me the shock of my life when a Plum coloured MX5 came up. I did not know what colour Mica Merlot was but for some reason I was expecting a blue colour. When I saw it I thought WTF then realised what it was.

My next challenge would have been to rerun the race without changing oil and keep going until I got to minimum hp.

This is all on superslicks and I was able to race with the other cars ie I was quicker so changing tire compound would make the on track racing boring but might make the final outcome closer. This would result in less lapped traffic so might even make the whole ordeal even more boring.

I must admit I have grown to like the MX5s and for me that is a good thing because I was getting bored of F1s, 787bs etc.
