I've been playing GT5 for solid for a month now and am loving it. I have a first generation Fanatec Porsche Wheel Turbo S which is updated to firmware 681 and have been overall very pleased with the performance in GT5.
Up until now I had been using pretty vanilla settings with the in game FFB set to 4 and the Power Assist set to OFF. On the wheel I had the following Settings: Sensativity 720, FFB 50, Shock Off, ABS 80, Drift 0, Linearity 0, Deadzone 0, Spring 0.
I found these settings to offer some very strong FFB with good braking and car mass effects. However, I noticed that the centering spring force in a hard turn appeared to drown out any other FFB. If I ran over a curb while in a hard turn I would not feel it in the wheel. In light turn or while going straight I could feel curbs just fine.
Last night I began to experiment and found out some interesting things.
First off, it didn't seem to effect my FFB much if I adjusted the strength with the in game setting. Level 5 and 10 felt the same and oddly enough I found the setting of 1 to offer the most lively FFB.
I also found that if I set my drift mode to 5 on my wheel the centering spring pull in the turns was drastically reduced which seemed to allow the curb and other FFB effects to be felt when in a hard turn.
With the combination of the in game force at 1 and drift at 5 the FFB in the game was very lively all around. Almost too much so as on the straights the FFB would thrash side to side pretty easily. To combat this I lowered the FFB on the wheel to 30 and set the deadzone on the wheel to 10. This helped the erractic nature of the car on the straights without compromising the effects in the corners. I alternated between this setup and one where I reduced the drift to 4 and increased the FFB to 40 and found both pretty good. With drift at 4 the corner effects where just slightly dampened but still there.
In the end I ended up liking this setup the most (but will still be testing to see if it needs tweaking any more)

Sen 720 (personal preference on this one)
FFB 30-40
Sho OFF (if you use the ABS function this won't work anyway)
ABS 80 (this has to be off if you want the Shock vibration)
DRIft 4
LINearity 0 (personal preference tied to Sen above)
DEAdZone 10 (combats the thrashing on straights without adding noticeable slop to wheel)
Spring 0 (doesn't seem to do anything in GT5)
My wheel might be totally different than other peoples. Once I upgraded to frimware 681 the FFB strength went through the roof and I need to turn it way down to make it useable. Other wheels may not have the same level of strength so you might need to tweak the FFB settings to get the right feel. The bottom line is that the higher settings appeared to be drowning out the other forces so you need to lower them until all forces are present.
