Okay I usually don't get on this site much at all, but here goes.

Just a little side story I've been a fan of GT at least since GT3 own 3, 4, and GT5 now. I was extremely skeptical of GT5 because I lurked this site like crazy before it came out during the days of it's hype up before it's release, and afterwards. I know a lot of people are disappointed seen countless threads that show the massive disappointment and with that I can say I agree and don't agree. BTW it should be noted I'm more casual than hardcore GT fan love the games, but not going to get pissed off at the little things.

Okay all that aside.

Yesterday I got the game from Gamestop I knew exactly what was waiting for me when I got back, but at least I got the XL edition so I didn't have to go through all the updates before Spec 2.

First thing I noticed Graphics are great there are a step up over GT4 by leaps and bounds, but I will say although not terribly disappointed in this the FPS is not up to GT3 or GT4 standards if I'm not mistaken both those games were at least 60FPS I might be wrong on that.

The sounds of the car even the soundtrack isn't too bad for my tastes. Like I've said before I'm more casual when it comes to GT games.

Biggest thing for me A.I/Number of Cars on track/Damage/Gameplay
Okay I'm coming from Gran Turismo 4 you know it only had 6 cars A.I was pretty dumb, but I didn't care much, and we had no damage.

The A.I isn't exactly smart still, but they've stepped up a bit I can at least tell with an eye test, and the number of cars on the track at once I'm happy for. Now it feels as though I'm racing for real. As for the damage I haven't seen the physical, but that mechanical damage is something else. Took an Audi R8 in Arcade Mode drove on the Spa Francochamps Circuit and I can say I'm at least happy that now I really have to get good at Driving because I don't want to race having to maintain the car before getting to the pit lane.

Things that I'm disappointed with No. of Tracks/Standing starts/Qualifying before the race.

There are many tracks missing from GT5 I know you all know this, but that's the thing that really disappoints me. Especially many from GT4 I see with the DLC their trying to correct that I'm glad for that.

I miss Standing starts it seems like every track is a rolling start while they are cool and what not I just want the standing start again is all.

Oh a bonus I don't like the leveling system I can tell this game is going to be a lot shorter than even GT4 or for that matter GT3 ever was.

Last thing this is something I'm not understanding people complaining about the shadows and what not I saw them, but seriously while I'm driving I'm focused on that road and the car itself. Kinda of like when playing any of the Modern Sonic the hedgehog games more focused on not dying then the level itself.

Give this game an 8.5/10

My last little note I'm not trying to win the Nobel Prize for my spelling and grammar might not be the best, but oh well.

Edit: I will say this is unfinished because I've only played this well this is my second day playing.

a fair review I guess

Thanks I hope I didn't put this is the wrong place, but I do admit I have yet to try out a good bit of stuff such as B-spec, Photo Mode, Special Tests/Challenges and Karting.

As you were disappointed may I ask what you were expecting? Was it perfection?

Not much of a review but more like your first impressions. I would understand your efforts if you acquired an early copy ahead of release or made an attempt to write a post-release in depth analysis of every single feature. People have read reviews and have had a lot of time to shape their own opinion about the game. Why do you want us to read this?

@hairystig

There was only some things I was disappointed with I wasn't expecting perfection as I don't believe in perfect games all that much.

@Nielsen

I'll keep that in mind next time even still for a first impression it's not that bad of a game. Although I do see some of the disappointment I feel that some of the better stuff outweighs it So far.

if I made some spelling errors I'm typing on my phone while riding.

Isn't it abit too late for a review? After all this game has been released for about 2 years already

IMO, the only thing that has kept me playing GT5 thus far is the online gameplay, it's much more fun compared to the single player gameplay (esp with the not so good AI)

There's still certainly much room for improvement for online too though...

Sorry should have changed to my first impressions of GT5. Instead of review I know it's little late for reviews, but I just felt like at least sharing my experience So far.

Game has changed into a completely different game in the last year and a half

Reasonably fair and good review from someone who has only just started playing the game.
Thank you for reminding us of the essence of why we play this game, and how it felt when the disc was new in the machine.
Curb your enthusiasm slightly, take your time, think before you write, and then proof read what you have written - one day you may be a Nobel prize winner.

Sincere regards,
J.

:)

p.s. Enjoy GT5!

@ Jarnec

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone would correct most of the error's I had. While I'm not too upset it is a pet peeve of mine that I've toned down on.

Still I digress as it's not a big deal. Thank you and you're welcome.

Update: Messed around with the course maker and the only gripe I have with it feels dead to me. There is no life to it. If they could give me a chance to place buildings around certain courses along with people or people in stands would be great. Even adding stuff like trees and such would be okay by me.

As far as making courses itself it's actually not bad feels like there is an infinite possibly to how many you can create.

I finally messed around with the B-spec mode as well it's pretty cool the only downfall I wish it could be sped up if that's possible in a future update. This also might not be a big deal because if I have a fast car probably won't have to worry about the speed problem.

Thanks I knew I couldn't give a 9.0 or even a 10, but I do admit if I'd gotten the game back in Nov. 2010 and even before Spec 2.0. This review would change to probably a 6.0-7.5 range just being honest.

Even I wasn't too impressed by the original GT5 because a good bit of stuff was left out.

I hope soon I'll have the remaining DLC's Twin Ring and Special Stage Route X.

if I made some spelling errors I'm typing on my phone while riding.

Damn, talk about multi-tasking, I can't even text with one hand :) Just for future reference, if you want make a legitimate review, give it more attention ;)

Other than that, good review, I wished I read it a year ago ;)

@ Bluntified

Well when I first wrote this up I was in that excited mode you know where you can't wait to tell someone something.

Like I said in another post someone else had told me I should have said "My First Impressions" and not "My Review of GT5".

Oh I wasn't driving either that's the other thing I was riding with my parents to the store.

Update on impressions after playing for my third day:

Finally got online and competed in a few races it was fun, but I might have to wait awhile. I'm not that great of a driver which means I have all the stuff on most people hate when doing actual racing.

Still the setup of online is pretty cool, and they give you a lot of options to choose from which is great.

Also messed around with the course creator a little more. I can tell it's a shell of something that will get better either through DLC or New Game.

Favorite Track on the creator is Toscana(Tarmac) I like the fireworks adds a little life to the track plus the day/night cycle helps as well.

As for the other ones they feel empty/dead to me I said in another thread if I was able to put buildings(houses, businesses, and gas stations are examples) and add more people I'd probably feel a lot better.

Most hated track/disliked is Cape Ring right now I've played a few of variations, but it feels like it came straight from Course Creator besides the loop it feels really meh to me like it was just uninspired.

That's all for now.

When it first came out I agree it should be rated lower.

One of the review sites said GT5 is a 10/10 simulator but a 5/10 game. Couldn't agree more. Being a fun game with lots to do is what use to separate it from lifeless PC sims

Couldn't agree more for people like me we love the city courses more when I say people like me I mean the not so hardcore GT fans.

Toyko R246 is one of my favorite courses for a reason feels like you're engaged in the game, and it feels like people are actually watching you race although they are lifeless.

If Someone could tell me how to change this title thread I seriously would cause I know it's very misleading.

You can do that by making a full edit of the first post.

The review site should skip review a racing game next time. GT is a good game and has well done physics, but it's far away from a "10/10 simulator".
I really enjoy driving in GT and it feels good, but the tire physics are to unrealistic and simple for example.

well anyway. Great thread and nice first impressions.

I think they were trying to make a point rather then accurately grade something. They were saying "It does great as a simulation but isn't any fun to play" The final score was like a 6/10 or something

This may be my last update as far as impressions go it's my fourth one and this one can be good or bad depending on who you are.

Okay as of right now I'm A-spec lv. 21 and B-spec lv. 9

The Aspec level came with a little cheating by doing the seasonal races.

So I went back online today and for the first time I've been booted I guess it was cause I'm American and these guys were Italian. Nothing against them at all, but I was a bit upset I was just looking for race for fun, but again I'm not too mad. :grumpy:

The only thing I can say for online is that I'm going to need to find clean drivers from this site to put on my friends list. Because if not online won't help me at all in fact it might make my overall experience with the game worse.

Also now I'm starting to experience some disappointment with GT5 it's still at solid 8-8.5 with me, but with GT6 they do need to improve many things.

Some things have been mentioned by this site numerous times, but I'll go a step farther and say while I wish there were more tracks from previous games. I actually wish they put some life into some of the current ones.

Tracks like Monza, Madrid, London, and Daytona are awesome they feel alive to me. Where as Cape Ring, some of the course maker tracks feel dead to me.

Also Rome feels like something went wrong it feels like the track isn't done.

It's even worse with the people on the tracks I was expecting what happened in GT4 at least on one track or even two, but never saw that. What I mean is the one guy at the Grand Canyon Rally Track how he stood out in the middle of the tracks that was cool to me it felt real for the moment it happened.

Career mode has been talked about to death already about how short it is and I got to agree. For me GT's bread and butter was it's career mode, and them failing to provide that lengthy career mode found in GT4 and GT3 was a big no-no.

As for the Cars themselves Standards aren't that bad to me anymore although I'd like more premiums, but one thing I do have a problem with is a company like Volvo having only 1 premium car or Maserati vs. Ferrari having like 13 or BMW with 5.

Okay now even though I'm disappointed in some things it doesn't mean I don't like the game I want to make that clear it's still a good game, but those are things I'm hoping to be fixed by the release of GT6 cause I bet their done with GT5 now it's been a year. Anything they release after this will be small stuff I bet.
