Hi all. Well. what can I say? I was at the Nordschliefe as it's my favourite track but found myself in the wrong car for the competition. I was in a Calsonic GT-R whilst the rest were in Merc CLK tourind cars. I was too fast so there wasn't any real competition and that's boring. I'd rather lose in a competitive car than win in a car that's way faster than the competition. Anyway, I was cruising along the long straight when the car that was last, apparently driven by a female, caught up to me. I accelerated and allowed her to tow past me and then I tucked in behind her. Next thing I'm being accused of ramming her from behind by some loudmouth who then proceeds to get verbally abusive. I don't use a mic so was unable to retort before I was kicked!

Is this really as good as it gets? I've got better things to do with my Sunday afternoons.

Your just in the wrong lounge, find an organised race series and drive along with some good, clean racers 👍

Or create your own room 👍

Welcome to the Internet.

Buy Codemasters Dirt 2 or 3 and you will see how online races should be made (=Server controls the races) 👍. This GT5 type of online racing :grumpy: is meant for racing with friend or group who has made they own rules. One area where GT5 does not shine.

Join us at MWCRC :)

bloody fantastic racing!

Go look at what tickles your fancy in the Clubs and Leagues section

You may have a look at a popular thread here called:
"Worst you've dealt with online"
There's some great stories in there. I stay away from GT5 lobbies, only lounge it with friends. Iracing takes care of my vice for competitive racing.

Do people purposely search for bad rooms? I never find rooms filled with bad people, ocasionally one or two 🤬 but nothing major.

yes, every lobby is exactly the same as that.

any other silly questions?

That's a bit harsh don't you think? I've had plenty of experience racing online in the past with GTR & LFS on the PC and indeed Dirt 2 on the PS3. I was just a bit irked that I managed to find the moron room on my first outing on GT5 that's all.

^ same here. I rarely find bad rooms.

There are loads of great rooms with clean racers in.

Don't be put off.

Avoid rooms with SRF on, actually only go to rooms that have restrictions and no driving aids. Generally the more restrictions the better the host, as he knows what he wants and will regulate it. Still not a guarantee, but a good guideline.

"Is this really as good as it gets?"

No, the online racing is the best part of the game. It's just a matter of finding the right group of people and encouraging each other to race clean. It's driving heaven when it all works out.

I had a little chuckle when I looked at you Avatar after I read you story ;)

I useally race in private lobbies, no problems there.

When I first jumped online about 8 months ago, I went through about a dozen rooms that ranged from "OK" to "OMG". I finally found a good one, made friends, and been racing with that group ever since. Just keep working it until you find that group that fits your attitude, skill, and style.

unlucky, i usually have good clean races online. not always but most. if a lounge sucks then leave it or create a new one making it clear that unsportsmanlike conduct is auto kick. if you are host just try and race with all the field for first races - not focusing on winning but to get a feel of who drives dirty, warn them - if they persist then kick. it's important to remove all dirty/rude drivers asap so the good ones don't leave. after you can focus on racing and not being a cop

to find decent lounges i usually filter out driving aids, lounges with "clean racing" in the name, race for real and EU servers (i stay away from US servers - not trying to be anti US just noticed that these servers are more prone to trash talk). this usually avoids the bad lounges.

If there is one thing I learned with online gaming, is that NO game has a perfect online community. Obviously some better than others but far from perfect. I have had some AMAZING moments online in GT5 and you will too, just find the right room, create your own, or even join a racing league here on GTP. 👍

I must be one of the lucky ones.

I've had some incredibly clean, curteous and close races online by joining random rooms.

If you join a room thats PP limited, it should be good and fair.👍

Luck of the draw I suppose.:indiff:

Well I've been online all evening and I must admit it's been great fun. Most people I've met were great and using a bit of common sense as suggested does seem to avoid the worst. I still don't understand why some have to be quite so abusive though but I guess the internet allows a level of anonymity which might foster these attitudes. Now I can't wait for next weekend. Thank you all and goodnight.

I sympathize with you, I seamed to have exactly the same luck, I try to join races with Clean racing in the description, but it seams you cant escape rammers, In one race I was racing as cleanly as I could, when out of no where some one comes up the outside of me and a couple of others then cuts into the corner right into my path, I had no other option but to slide into him whilst on the brakes, I then get accused of ramming him, then when I tried to defend my self i get told that if I can't handle an overtake I shouldn't be racing lol

I've been apprehensive of joining some of the racing series as sometimes I cant always commit to some scheduled races or I feel I may just not be good enough competition. Although the way Im feeling after today I may just give them ago As I've nothing to lose.

I feel the same way about the series and leagues. I work 50+ hrs per week and I also doubt I'm really good enough for it. I am fair though and when I do make a mistake to someone else's cost I hate it.

There are leagues and such that are suited for the less-than-expert racer. There should, at least, be two "avid/good racer" leagues, which is good enough because any (most I suppose) of the other ones have better than just great racers. I'm one of the, "MEH I'm all right." Still learning.
