Ok, before I say why today wasn't as good as it could have been I'm going to sum up what I learnt from playing GT4 today. When you play races you can choose whether you want MT\AT, no suprises there, the next option it which steering assist you want from Beginner to Professional, Beginner = TCS + ASM, Amateur = TCS and Pro = none, maybe there are handling differences too. Finally you can choose which tires you would like to use, racing or normal, perhaps equivelent to GT3s Race or Drift option.

Anyway there were a whole host of new cars, it was great seeing so many nice looking cars, also there were several tracks to try, all were new, it was cool, although a lot of the textures seemed to have been copied straight from GT3 with absolutely no graphical improvent whatsoever, the tracks were impressive, so was the look and feel of them, but I would have liked the proper race circuits to look different from Midfield on GT3.

Anyway GT4 was pretty cool, but nothing spectacular, however I really though Need for Speed: Underground was great.

But now back onto the topic, are Sony ******* stupid or what? The competition for GT4, to win a £16,000 Honda Civic Type R, a years broadband* conenction and GT4* when it comes out (* indicates all semi-finalists got this too I think) sounds great. But the way it was organised was so ****. They just picked people out at random over the 3 days and in the end pitted people against each other in a knockout series, you win you go through; this was complete bull****, I expected many machines of GT4 networked together to get the best players pitted against each other in the main events in the Duel area, not the crappy players that were lucky enough to be entered, there was one goodish racer in the pack, and I said he'd win when I saw him and his competition race, he was the better, but I would not call him good, average is a more appropriate term, a lot of you will say I;m jealous, and yes I am, but if you got to play the game yourself and then you see these people play in the Duel for those prizes, you would not expect them to not be able to keep the car on the road or change gears at the right time, or get basic things right like a racing line, out of the 8+ races I saw only one person had any kind of racing line at all, and he won. Had I the chance to enter this competition I am sure that I would have won, pitting me against the people who were in the competition, when I played GT4 I kept on the track, rarely crashed, came first against the CPU in every race and raced cleanly, unlike the competition entrants who none of them stringed together a decent lap throughout the whole set of races, there were people spinning off, hitting walls head on, shunting the opponent off the track and using the grass past the rumblestrips to corner, and slowly might I add, their laptimes were far from spectacular.

To cut a long story short GT4 = Potential to be as good if not greater than GT3
PS Experience and Sonys organisation = <unmentionable words>

hey if you can remember the names of any of the cars you saw in the game and the names of the tracks you saw post them man

Um well there were at least 30cars I think, I didn't count, but there were a lot, also there were a few tracks, I don't remember names but I'll try:

New York Race Track
Tsuka? (Some Japanese track)
Some very tight twisty course through villages and stuff
Some canyon sort of Rally Track
Another Japanese (I think) track - there was the Speedway which people got about 58seconds a lap, and another one which was longer)

I think there were 5-7 tracks, but I didn't get time to try all of them, but that New York track is really good to play, and those Japanese ones are ideal for arcade 2 player races, and that tight twisty one looks very very good, I didn't see or play that rally track(s).

I used an Evo8, WRX STi (I think) and I saw the Nissan Z LM being used as well as some 80s looking cars, there was a big selection, and the pictures which have been posted before seem to be accurate. Although all the power measurement is in PS and not BHP and the speedo is KMH and not MPH :(

Why don't you like km/h? It makes you feel like your car's accelerating faster because the numbers go up quicker.

It's not that I don't like it, just that Gran Turismo is meant to be "the real driving simulator" so it should have MPH for it's UK release as every UK originally designed car I've travelled in has been in MPH. I don't really pay attention to my speed because I look where I'm going and try to judge my distance by how far I'm travelling (usually the 100m boards are a good place to start with - or use the brake indicator both when learning) so the numbers going faster doesn't really bother me. Also I failed to believe that my virtual car was travelling at 200kph+ but this is the same as other GT games and it's not a major problem, but after playing Need For Speed: Underground (you just gotta see this game, the graphics are amazing, I loved the water reflections on the road and the use of lights and motion blur) which when you travel at speed you know it, GT4 is moderately tame.

I agree with u dude, i was really looking forward to having a chance to win something and going home a winner, respect to u mate and your rage, [Language edited by GilesGuthrie]

The cars playable where:

Supra Twin Turbo (92)
Corolla Levin GT-APEX (85)
Prelude Type S (99)
Cappucino (90)
EVO VIII (03-04 Model)
Impreza STi (04 Model)
Corvette Stingray (67)
Chryslar Prowler
Camaro Z208 (69)
Plymouth Barracuda (70-72?)
Pontiac GXP (00)

um.....

Lotus Europa
Datsun 240ZX
Nissan Z LM
Honda NSX LM (04)
RX-8 LM
ETC, ETC.....

TRACKS: :D

Citta de Aria = Italian, Narrow Course.
Grand Canyon = Rally Track
Fuji Speedway = Reincarnation of High Speed Ring but its a Real Track.
New York = 180mph down Times Square!!!
Tsukaba Circuit = Another All-round classic Track

Well network play is upto 6 players, and you can Force Start (I only saw network features) - also there's the stuff I mentioned in my first post about Driving Aids.

The graphics are going to be better than what you saw at PS Experience though, if you go to IGN and other sites like that they say that the graphics are still really pixely and stuff, they are not the final game graphics at all.

It all looked pretty sweet, i do agree that the PSM comps were complete arse.

I got to play all of the tracks except the grand canyon (looked dull). Citta de Aria was hella hard, i can imagine a license on it being evil. Tsukaba, fuji and new york were really really sweet. New york reminded me very much of the Seattle circuits (right angle corners, city streets).

Cars were nice, not much different to gt3, 'cept more responsive. I ran the Evo 8 three times and the NSX LM once. Evo 8 was real sweet :D

In general good fun, but queuing to play each time was harsh, 10-20 minute wait for one go on gt4. Had to wait for about half an hour to get on the hydraulic GTC Subaru sim thingy, good fun though, well worth it :)

Well, I guess I can sit here and be jealous here in WI, where nothing ever happens, while you guys get to play GT4. Oh well.

I agree totally man :irked: these idiots who organized this event did not have a clue .... some idiot who cant even play GT games walked off with a new car and title of best player in the U.K :odd: sorry but i was not given the chance to race and i was there on the 1st session :( , if i had been one of the lucky 4 picked then they would have seen the real Number1 in U.K
:D ( you know it's true 👍 ) anyway the whole thing was a shambles and travelling a 500mile round trip to this farce just adds fuel to my fire :banghead:

OMG that whole duel thing was so STUPID, people won races leading up to the final by going into reverse at least twice a lap after hitting a wall. It wouldn't be bad, but they had PRACTISE on these laps before :odd:

When I heard my friend say a Civic Type R was the prize I thought he was kidding or maybe it was a model car or something, then I hear the presenters say it's the 16000 pound model :(

Hell yeah I'm jealous, that final was an embarresment to watch, Evo VIII's I believe were the final car.

NO GT fan would have liked to have seen how they were racing in the semi's with the Nissan Z LM :(

Never thought I could be so jealous :D

Wow it sounds like even I could of won that car without much effort.

That's just sad...

They used the Nissan Z LM on the Japenese courses: Tsukaba Circuit and Fuji Speedway and the Suburu Imprezza on Tokyo (the track which determined the finalists) probably because the track is slightly harder and they knew that the people they picked would be **** so having the less powered cars would leave less margin for driving error and make the whole event look more interesting, oh well that's just life I guess; I myself haven't beaten GT3 yet, and some of the entrants were boasting that they completed GT1 through GT3 but they were still awful, I think most members on GTPlanet would have done well in that competition, the entrants didn't even have simple car handling skills like adjusting your acceleration, 80% of the racers couldn't keep the car in control on a straight-away.

What day were you there on?

Although I agree with you on the stupid competitions, you had to stand right at the front so that they could pick you. All people I saw were complete bollocks, eventually I just walked off in disgust. While I was queing up to play I never saw anybody driving in manual, or in the professional mode. Although Keeno went last year and they had the same stupidly ****ing organised competitions with GTC. I was there untill the end, so I basically got a GT4 box to myself for quite a bit. And not once did I lose, I think the AI was pretty stupid.

The two Japanese circuits were Tskuba (which was bloody easy) and Fuji Speedway (which is in Toca racedriver, so I already knew the basic layout), that new york track reminds me of one of the tracks from Project gotham. The new Italian track is just, effin great.

I went on Sunday, where they picked some people and held the final from the people who got through to the final from 28th-31st (Sunday).
