My last day....

At GTP? No... were did you get that thought from! Thats impossible!

Today is my last day as an Architectural Drafter for Maronda Homes. I have been here for four years, and the job has been good to me. Now though, its time to move on. I start the University of South Florida August 23rd, and move into my apartment in Tampa August 15th. All to spend at least four years trying obtain my Masters of Architecture. So today marks a huge change in my life, and hopefully one for the better.

Couple things this job gave me:
First and Formost: I fell upon GTP right here in this very chair at this very desk.
I have a huge list of contacts on my Nextel phone that say I can call anytime. Including two Engineers, and one Architect.
I designed my first house for the manager of the truss plant here.
Plus I was able to buy myself two new cars using the money I earned here.

Not bad. In a way I will miss it, but in others I can not wait for the future!
 
Well, I doubt on on your Nextel, but you're welcome to PM me or email me any time. Good luck with your business and your education! It's not going to be fun at times, but it will be rewarding.

Just remember one thing: don't take the criticism personally. People who haven't been through it don't know what it's like to have poured your soul and sweat and sleep deprivation into a design, for the sole purpose of pinning it up on the wall in front of a bunch of "experts" who will spend a few minutes looking at it, and then try to rip it apart. It's their job to make you think harder and better (though some of them think it's their job to wash out as many weaklings as they can...).

You'll do great, and if there's anything I can ever do to help, don't hesitate to ask.
 
Wow congrats!!! Good luck with the new job and the masters.
I would like to see some of the work you do. Are you doing commercial, industrial or residential? I did commercial and residential for a few months then the place burnt down and now im doing engineering at a different company that doesnt pay worth a crap but hey I get to be on the internet all day.
 
Good luck, Magic, I know this has been your dream for some time now!

In any case, next time you pass by the Iota dormitory at USF, spare a thought for the GTP member who used a 1200 baud modem on his old IBM PCjr, and constantly sneaked into the Epsilon and Kappa dorms way past the normal visiting hours, and had to eat in the Andros cafeteria three times a day...

Duke, I plan to be on here quite a bit and asking for opinions. I know there are a few of us here that share the same interests and it will be nice to here you alls thoughts, before theirs.

Pupik, I bought the food plan as well. So its the cafeteria 3 times a day for me as well. Thats if I can afford the time to eat that much.

Camaroboy, I don't really know yet. I have always said redsidential, but I am going to see what hits me while in college.

GTP is going to ride these four years with me whether it wants to or not! ;)

Hey, maybe in a few years, if I choose the path of the architect, maybe you can give me a nice, big, expensive job. Sound good? :)
