Yep, the doctor found it eariler today. She went because her neck has bumps in it and she was having pain. It sucks. You don't ever think this sort of stuff can happen to someone close to you. It's not as serious as a brain aneurysm but it's still nothing to take lightly. I'm feeling weird. This just had to happen a week from my 16th birthday...:(

I'm not aware of what a carotid aneurysm is, but I hope to God it's not life threatening, or anything.:nervous:

I'm very sorry to hear this, Concept. I wish nothing but the best for your mom right now.:)

carotid aneurysm... Something to do with the heart, right?

Sorry to hear this...I'm pretty much speechless in situations like these...:(

For the good news,
It's is treatable.
For non-invasive treatment, the doc will probably put your mom on Coumadin to prevent clots.
If they decide to do an invasive procedure (surgery) They have several options.
They can take a vein from one of her legs to replace the one in her neck. Or, they can use an artificial vein, much like they use in dialysis patients.
It won't be an easy time for either of you. But if you need someone to talk to PM me. I'm a nurse, though not a cardiac specialist, I can probably find answers to any questions you have within a day or two.
My prayers are with you and your mom.

I'm sorry to hear that! My prayers will definitely be with you and your family.

Thanks Gil for giving us all a little information on what can be done for her. Y'learn something new everyday :)

My condolences are also with you...:(

I hope everyone turns out okay.

Matt, I'm really sorry to hear about that... and I really hope your mothers' case is treatable.

Hang in there, bud.

I'm sorry to hear that Concept. I hope everything goes well. Be strong. 👍

:(

My best wishes go out to you and your mom.

Hope your mom gets better soon Matt, best of wishes. :)

Thank you all for the best wishes and all. She goes back to the doctor Monday the 17th for the surgery setup and etc. Thanks again for the kind words.

I hate to hear this, Concept. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your mom.

Matt, it's the 18th -- what did the doctors say?

Any good news?

Sorry, to hear that man, my prayers are with u and your mom

Whoa! Not good news! My prayers are with you and your mom!

Read this Dodge. ;)

Oh, so it's a problem with a vein in the neck, but it's treatable...that's good (that it's treatable). Good thing Gil is here :)

Well, Monday she went to the doctor as you all know. They told her that her corotid artery is only 40% blocked. They won't operate on her until it's at least 70% blocked. I don't get it either. They have to wait until something dangerous gets more dangerous until they operate? Anyhow, she's treatable and will live. :)

I missed school yesterday and today. I felt sharp pains in my neck yesterday morning and awoke to them. I could barely open my mouth. I went to the Emergency Room later that day and they told me I had severly swollen lymph nodes in my neck and acute Bronchidis. I don't know what Bronchidis is but I don't care, it's the lymph nodes that suck. The right side of my neck and a little of my lower jaw are swollen. I should go back in 3-5 days. Going to the ER was a bad choice, it cost over $600 for them to take X-rays and the other stuff they did. Happy happy birthday to me this year. My good ol' 16th birthday is going to turn out to be crap. :(

Good to hear the first bit of news (👍), though sorry to hear that last bit. :( BTW, I've had Bronchitis once (destroyed my 3-year perfect attendence streak), and it's basically caused by an inflammation of your windpipe... as long as you don't develop chrnic bronchitis, it should go away in a few days.

Geek. ;)

Anyway, sorry about everything Concept. Nothing I can say will make you feel any better, but the only advice that I have is to not let yourself down, hold your head high and say "We can get over this".

Yeah. :)

Hey, you're the one who was ranked first in your class, you... geek, you! :p (I was ranked a mere 5th... *cough*)

Excuse me? The my whole year, first out of the entire year (you americans call it 'grade').

I'm glad someone remembers though. Anyway, not to hijack Concepts thread, hang in there d00d. :)

I hope things are starting to look up for you. Sounds like you have a little infection in your lymph nodes.
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the Bronchioles (the tubes that carry air into your lungs.)
The antibiotics for the Bronchitis SHOULD take care of the lymph nodes.
I hope you feel better.
I know that you're confused and frustrated right now with all the stuff going on in your life. Having recently lost a parent, I know about the worry that you are dealing with as well.
Right now your mom is not a candidate for the Carotid Endarterectomy. (Vein repair). I don't understand it either, but the docs prefer to wait until there is a "real" problem before they do anything invasive. A 40% blockage can exist for several years before it's bad enough to surgically correct. Your job right now is to help your mom. Don't let her get too stressed out. Ease her load as you can. But do not quit living your life.

I don't know where you stand religiously, but when I get REALLY stressed I go directly to the Bible. Book of Matthew, Chapter 6, starting at verse 23 thru the end of the chapter. I start most of my days reading that passage.

My advice is to go to Urgent Care rather than the ER. It's cheaper, as well as quicker.
